This Hindu Couple From Kerala Got Married In A Mosque. And It’s Beautiful, Especially In These Turbulent Times

I think we can all agree; the beginning of 2020 has been rough. We have all struggled to come to terms with a lot of new aspects that are being introduced in the country. And that has led to a complete disturbance in our communal harmonies. It is common knowledge that Hindus will be pitted against Muslims in our country for political gains and we’re just dealing with that. I know this is a deep-rooted complex issue, but to put it in a nutshell, the blind hatred against any community is completely unnecessary and uncalled for.

We can live together, in one community and have a symbiotic relationship. Casteism is only such a huge deal here because for years that is the primary thing people looked at. For the longest time, Hindu-Muslim weddings were treated as a sin. Two people in love couldn’t marry anyone outside their religion or caste, there have actually been honour killings because of this. But I am so happy to say things are changing slowly and steadily. Take a look at this iconic wedding, for example.

Sarat Sasi and Anju Ashok, a couple from Kayamkulam in Alappuzha district of Kerala had their wedding at the Cheruvally Muslim Jamaat mosque. Not only did they carry out all the Hindu traditions overseen by a Hindu priest, but the mosque was responsible for setting up the mandap and other decorations. They also provided a vegetarian feast for nearly 1,000 guests. I mean, if this doesn’t warm the cockles of your heart, I don’t know what will.

The bride’s mother chose the mosque as their venue because their finances didn’t allow for an expense of the sort. The mosque helped 100% in organising, hosting the wedding and also gifted the bride 10 gold souvenirs and 2 lakh cash. How awesome is that?  The story came to light when Kerala’s Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan congratulated the couple and lauded the mosque for this kind gesture.

In times when the whole country is coming together, regardless of religion, caste, creed, etc to stand against the CAA, this small but beautiful act just stole our hearts.
