This Thread On Reddit Shared All The Takeaways For A Woman From Rhea Chakraborty’s Case. It’s Painfully Accurate

By  |

Before I start talking about what I am going to, let me be amply clear about one thing and that is, that in light of the current issue and debacle of Rhea Chakraborty’s media trial that is running on every news channel, Whatsapp group and social discussion, the only side I am supporting here right now, is how poorly Indian women are treated. With enough slogans, poems, articles and debates, all stirring up the controversy, the line between acceptable and violently intrusive has been conveniently blurred. And whether or not Rhea is held guilty in account of Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide, there have been enough missteps in the proceedings, to know that tomorrow when they’re in her position, things might not look very different. And that’s an alarming thought.

You see, after a certain point, it wasn’t about Rhea at all. It was about what a woman in general would be categorized, treated, or stereotyped as when the victim is a man. “Gold-digger”, “witchy”, “cold-hearted”, “bitchy”, all adjectives used as character references for any woman who would dare be the modern day, opinionated version of herself. And watching this unfold with a sense of dread has been a particular thread on Reddit, that laid down, in simple yet such hard-hitting words, all the takeaways a woman must have, from the ongoing case of Rhea Chakraborty.

And we’d be lying if we didn’t admit just how much truth every word holds here. Especially if you’re single, strong-headed and in love. Starting up with references from mythological stories, it talked about how the society outright hates its women. Even more so if you’re unmarried, and good-looking and climbing the ladder of success.

Lessons to learn by Indian women from Rhea Chakraborty’s tragedy from india

And whoever this person is (we’re assuming it’s a she), they really hit the nail on the head. Summing up the experience of being a woman in India, this person tells you what you want to hear and more. What is worrying though is that so many people related with it.

The list continues to point out how, what is fun for men would always be debauchery for women. If a man does it, it would qualify as a bad habit, if a woman does the same, she would qualify as a bad woman. Cautioning women about survival in a society that doesn’t want you to, the thread carefully and minutely dismantles society and its misogynistic beliefs, to paint a true picture of how Indian women must constantly walk on eggshells.

The post that was further shared on twitter by many users, has held a mirror up to the Indian society and its distaste for each and every woman. Teaching women how no matter what, our actions would always be twisted to make us look like villains, the thread has definitely given us a lot to think about. Because once again, it is us women who’d need to learn to adjust, as men continue to further such patriarchal notions to feed their own fragile egos.
