This Couple Had A Gender Reveal Party At The Burj Khalifa. While It Was Gorgeous, This Is Perhaps Not The Best Time For Gender Reveals

There are some trends I just can’t get behind. Not only because they seem utterly pointless but also because they are now done to death. For instance, when everyone was doing the kiki challenge I couldn’t figure out what’s so fun about getting out of a moving car and dancing. Another such trend that has been going on for ages is gender reveal parties. To-be parents find various ways to surprise themselves with the gender of their unborn baby. Blue for boy and pink for girls, obviously.

The thing is though since this trend has been going on for so long, people have done all the usual variations. Cut a cake with either pink or blue frosting inside depending on the sex, burst balloons with specific colour confetti inside etc etc. These seem normal and well, doable, right? Now, the problem is that parents are thinking of out-of-the-box ways to surprise themselves and it’s as amazing as those videos are to watch, it’s getting a little out of hand.

The most recent example is of this Dubai-based couple who took their gender reveal party to new heights, literally.

The couple, Anas and Asala Marwah are UAE-based Syrian influencers who had their gender reveal party at one of the worlds tallest buildings- the Burj Khalifa. The gender of their second baby was projected onto the building with colourful lights. How extravagant is that? I didn’t even know this was an option.

Anas and Asala have over 7 million followers on their Youtube channel, The Anasala Family. According to reports, this Burj Khalifa party cost them a whopping  $100,000. (Rs 73,56,450). They posted the video on their Youtube channel two days ago and Anas posted it on Instagram as well.

The video shows the couple with their daughter surrounded by their friends and family watching the Burj Khalifa tower with anticipation. After lighting up with colours and doing a countdown, the tower finally had only blue lights dancing all over and the words, “it’s a boy” written on it. It was really heartwarming to see the reactions the couple and their loved ones had. This video has been viewed 1.2 million times.

As amazing as their video was you have to admit, it’s one of the most insanely OTT things ever.

Of course, they received a lot of criticism too since this came at a time when people aren’t exactly too happy with gender reveal parties. Thanks to the massive wildfire in California that was caused by a gender reveal party, the concept is surrounded by controversy at the moment.

You see, a few weeks ago a couple who were excited to share the sex of their baby with their friends and family set off a smoke bomb whose smoke would determine the sex, and the arid California air took care of the rest. The device ignited the wild grasses and now it has turned into a raging fire that has burnt through nearly 10,000 acres and forced more than 20,000 people to evacuate.

So it stands to reason that people are not a huge fan of these OTT gender reveal parties right now. I mean, they did cause a huge fire after all. I just think people need to be more careful with the ways they choose to reveal their child’s gender. Instead of lighting up the tallest building in the world or burning down 10,000 acres on the west coast of America maybe they could burst a balloon or hit a pinata?

Having said that, I have watched the Burj Khalifa video over 5 times and it’s just so gorgeous. But we still have to be more mindful.
