This Company Based In Canada Circulated A Sticker Depicting Greta Thunberg Being Sexually Assaulted. This Is So Sickening!

Eminem once said, “You have enemies? Good, that means you stood up for something in your life.” Yes, I just quoted the rap god in an incredibly serious story because I am very millennial, and he makes the best points sometimes. But here’s the thing, I don’t know if you have noticed but that quote has proved to hold true every time someone has taken a stand in life. If you believe in something and are outspoken about it, a few people are going to hate on you. However, there are only a handful of people in the world who can stand unfazed after listening to so much undeserved criticism. Greta Thunberg, the 17-year-old powerhouse and the world’s most renowned climate activist is one of them.

Greta was merely 15 years old when she started her protests in her home country, Sweden. Before you know it, she became a household name and the global face of the climate movement. At her age, most of us focus of parties, college and friends but not her. She has proved that age is not a measure for might. Single-handedly that girl has accomplished more than all of us could do put together and she should be awarded and appreciated for her efforts.

Now, this is my perspective and it might be yours too. But not everyone feels that way, especially not Trump who has criticized her on multiple occasions. Do you know who clearly doesn’t like everything Greta stands for? This oil company based in Alberta, Canada. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out why an oil company has a vendetta against a climate activist but what they did as a way to bring her down was cringe-worthy, disgusting and frankly, they crossed like a bazillion lines.

Apparently, X-site energy thought it was a good idea to circulate animated stickers that featured Greta being sexually assaulted. Nope, I am not messing with you. The cartoon depicted the naked backside of a girl who looks like she is bending over a little while two hands are seen pulling her braids. How do we know that its Greta’s image? Well, the braids are a giveaway the second and clearer giveaway is that they wrote her name at the bottom before writing the name of the company. Smart, huh? Whoever made this, clearly did not think it through. This cartoon received so much backlash on Twitter for the resemblance it has to child pornography, as it should.

This vile depiction of Greta is in such bad taste that it makes me sick. It’s supposed to be a threat to Greta but it’s more like a sick joke. But, like I said she one fierce, dynamic young lady who just shrugged it off by taking to Twitter to say “They are starting to get more and more desperate… This shows that we’re winning.”  I really wish I had half her strength and determination.

What kind of people do this to a 17-year-old girl? But you know she is right, an MNC oil and energy company would not react like this unless they are insecure of something. Even then, a depiction of her being sexually assaulted and all, because she is outspoken is revolting. Seems to me like they have a lot to hide.

An investigation done by a popular publication showed that this sticker was actually created by the company to be circulated amongst its employees to be worn on their helmets and other accessories as a promo sticker. The sting that was conducted actually had someone call up the general manager of X-site, Doug Sparrow to ask him whether he was aware of this sticker that depicts minor rape. Sparrow said he was aware of it and moreover, Greta was not a child, she was 17 years old. He later told a local Canadian publication that neither X-site nor any of its employees were involved in making that sticker.

I am a little confused, is he insinuating that its okay to do this because she can’t be considered a child anymore? Because I have news for him, it is never okay to represent something like this. Though we might see it like that, but Canadian law does not. According to their laws, this image is offensive but can’t be called “child pornography”. The investigation that was carried out by the Canadian Mounted Police concluded that the picture neither contained child pornography nor depicted that it was a non-consensual act that was a direct threat.

It is understandable that an oil company comes into the direct line of vision for a climate activist but lashing out against a 17-year-old girl who is fighting tooth and nail to save us from climate change despite suffering from Asperger’s syndrome is hitting below the belt. Actually, doing this to any woman is frankly, sickening.

Maybe the Canadian law doesn’t see this as unlawful, but I really wish X-site energy faces the consequences of what they did.
