Kalki Koechlin’s Cool Disregard For Traditional Maternity Style Is Unique And Rebellious. We Love It.

By  |

There is a whole industry out there churning out “maternity” clothes by the hour for pregnant women. What even is maternity fashion? Baggy dresses that are comfortable but extremely unflattering? Or stretchy pants that end up giving you rug burns instead of being airy. While we do understand the need for customized clothes when the bump starts to grow, there is no need for a total upheaval of one’s wardrobe. Kalki Koechlin, who recently announced her pregnancy with an adorable post, holds similar opinions about pregnancy style as well.

The coolest actress of Bollywood, Kalki already has a unique sense of style. Her fashion is not dictated by trends, but contemporary styles that she deems interesting to wear. I myself had the privilege of interviewing her on one occasion and noticed her totally in love with the mesh number she had on.

Kalki seems to have transferred this unbothered attitude to her maternity style as well because the woman is wearing dresses that we couldn’t wear even after a tiring jog!

From satin silks to snug sequins, Kalki is staying clear of stereotypical silhouettes peddled to pregnant women as viable options to shop for. Her mantra seems to be to stick to what you do best, edit it just a bit to accommodate the tummy and bootylicious behind and you are good to go. Women, especially desi women, can sometimes feel the pressure to forego of risqué styles when they are pregnant in order to avoid any judgments. But if this is what it looks like to do your thing, even when knocked up, then why the hell not!
