Jennifer Lopez’s Super Bowl Makeup Took 10 Hours Of Prep Time And We Are Loving The Details

By  |
The Super Bowl halftime show is hallowed ground for performers who are known for delivering high-energy, crowd-pleasing shows. Artists are paid in millions to perform for this show and it remains a cultural phenomenon in the US sporting world. With names like Beyonce, Coldplay and Bruno Mars featuring in the performances, the halftime usually lasts anywhere between 20 to 30 minutes, which means, a lot has to be done in a very short amount of time. There is barely any time to warm up the crowd, the need of the hour being to just dive right in and get groovin’!
This year’s performers Jennifer Lopez and Shakira reached another milestone by becoming the first Latin superstars to perform. “Two Latinas doing this in this country at this time is just very empowering to us,” confessed Lopez’ while Shakira said, It’s very important for us to convey a message of unity and also to show what a relevant force the Latin community is in this country”. How fabulous!

If that wasn’t a flex enough, JLo’s makeup artist Scott Barnes revealed some juicy details about her beauty look. It took ten hours of prep time and constant touch up to keep Lopez looking fabulous under all those harsh lights and an intensely adrenaline-filled show. Barnes detailed how the team was running around all day!

“We started at 10 a.m. this morning and got to Jennifer’s house at around 10:30 a.m. She was doing some rehearsing, we were doing fittings, and then nails started, and hair, and then makeup. But I didn’t finish it yet, so I left the house around 3 p.m. with a police escort. Yeah, a police escort. I started makeup again around 4:30 p.m. and did that until 5:30 p.m. We did a quick little run through, and then we finished up and we were on stage. It was crazy”, elaborates Barnes and it seems absolutely wild.

Barnes also detailed how the touch-up job required military precision. “We were standing on the side, and I was like, “Make sure I get powder, make sure I have lip gloss, make sure I have bronzer.” At that point, I was using a ton of products, my palette, my new lip glosses that are coming out, Marc Jacobs bronzer, and Marc Jacobs eyeliner to be exact. That’s what we did the smoky eye with and it was so great and amazing. It was so soft and worked so well”, he said in a post-show interview.

We are thoroughly impressed!
