Jennifer Lopez Considered Becoming A Stripper Before She Made It Big. The Struggle Is Real And Cruel.
Right before I became a writer, I was a lot of things. Before landing myself plum in the middle of this field of entertainment and journalism, I was an auditor working with one of the Big Fours and then even before that, I was a dancer. Needless to say, there was struggle in each of those fields that was equally real and equally challenging. And while every industry is tainted with a few under the table and corrupt nuances and practices of its own, the entertainment industry is probably the worst. And it is no different in Hollywood as it is in Bollywood, as recently brought to light by the American singer and actor, Jennifer Lopez.
Recently nominated for a Golden Globes for her performance as a stripper in the movie Hustlers, JLo revealed how before she made it big in her life as a singer and actress, she considered becoming a stripper, for real. In a candid interview with the W Magazine, the actress opened up about the kind of a life she had going for her before she became famous.

She shared how she’d had hit a low point in her life when she wasn’t even earning enough to get a square meal and said, “There was a moment in my life when my friends, who were also dancers, told me about making thousands of dollars at clubs in New Jersey…They said, ‘You won’t need to be topless.’ It sounded awfully good when I was broke and eating pizza every day, but I never did it.”
And it made us think, once again, about just how cruel the entertainment industry can be for people who are trying to make ends meet. For people, still trying to get a foothold, the money between jobs is frugal and it can lead to them wanting to make money elsewhere and the options are severely limited, most of the time. Stripping is one such example. And don’t get us wrong here, we understand that like everything else, it too is a job that many take on with their own free choice and will, but if we’re being really honest here, we know that only a few would.
Often, we know only about the star, their journey to the stardom and it’s peppered with unicorns and rainbows and the occasional thorn, but the reality is different. Jennifer Lopez is a powerhouse of talent and has been since her first song released, we know that even if she had actually picked up that job, she’d be a star even there. Honing her pole-dancing skills for the movie, so much that might even give the trained professionals a spin for their money (pun intended). JLo left everyone in awe with her performance.

Looking absolutely radiant in her gold and green Valentino gown for the Golden Globes, Jennifer owned the red carpet. Talking about her role in the movie, she also said, “I do things because I love them. I didn’t get paid a whole bunch of money for Hustlers. I did it for free and produced it. I bank on myself. That’s the Jenny From the Block. I do what I want, I do what I love.” And trust us when we say it, We love that Jenny From The Block, too.
