World’s Oldest Couple Have Been Married For Almost 80 Years And Here’s The Secret Behind Their Forever Kind Of Love
The thing about human connections is that they aren’t stagnant or one way, like the kind you have with God or your pets or the imaginary kind I have with Mark Ruffalo. This means that our relationships will vary through the passage of time and if you had to draw a graph, it will look like the footsteps of a cat who couldn’t decide whether she wants to go through the door or not. Grieving at the slightest change, some of us don’t adapt well to these ever-evolving dynamics. Their relationship made more brittle and less elastic, it breaks in the process.
Unfortunately, we tend to measure love on the scale of longevity. But the love which didn’t last was love too. And that hurts because we don’t want to lose the people we love. Honestly, I don’t even understand the concept of temporary relationships. Like I would at least want to know that a relationship has lasting potential before I dive right in. I guess we all do and yet, sometimes we give in to the feeling of euphoria the love brings us and invest in it, even though we know it won’t last.
Lasting relationships require effort, and sometimes our emotions mess with our desire to put in some. And yet, there are couples who last through all the ups and downs and even preserve the love and closeness they share. Julio Cesar Mora Tapia, 110, and Waldramina Maclovia Quinteros Reyes, 104, became the Guinness World Record holder of the world’s oldest married couple, having lived a combined total of 215 years. They have been married for a total of 79 years. They had met on a school vacation back then.
The couple knew each other seven years before they tied the knot and the initial years weren’t free from roadblocks. Apparently, their families didn’t get along but eventually, over the years, things became smooth. “It was not easy because our relatives did not have a good relationship, but with time and patience we were able to unite them and we became an example and the best reference for the younger generations,” says a statement recorded by Guinness World Record.
The couple went on to have a big family, the kind we see in Sooraj Barjatya movies with five children, 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Okay, scratch that, the last time I saw a family this big was in Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi after the several generation leaps it went through. How did they manage to keep the wheels of such a colossal family running? “Family unity under the rules of love, mutual respect, honest work, and proper education based on family values are the keys to healthy coexistence,” the couple said.
The Secret Behind Their Successful Marriage
But none of this could have been possible without a strong foundation. It was their love and understanding that helped them sustain the ever-changing nature of relationships and personal evolution. “The love and maturity that we had as a couple from the beginning of the marriage allowed us to know each other and grow emotionally to define our future,” the couple who married 79 years ago on 7th February, 1941. Their wedding was a small gathering with just their godparents and close people since their families were against their marriage. But in the end, love triumphed all, truly.
Mora was born on 10th March, 1910, and Quinteros on 16th October, 1915. “Libra and Pisces are both very understanding and even in the case of a fiery fight between the two, they tend not to stay angry with each other for too long. They are both perfectly capable of looking at both the sides of the argument and see the bigger picture in case of a small disagreement,” says Ganeshaspeaks.com about their compatibility.
However, as per astrology, this match does have its cons as well. “The Piscean is a sensitive and emotional zodiac sign, while the Libra is relatively reticent. This can create a wedge between the two, more so as the latter’s inability to express his/her emotions openly can unnerve the Fish,” says the website about their challenges.
But the zodiac sign experts also say that with their love and maturity, they can overcome it. “The Pisces Libra bond will come up against many challenges to keep itself afloat. However, if they truly love each other and want their relationship to work, they have enough loyalty and maturity within themselves to find a permanent home in each other,” reads ganeshaspeaks.com.
It’s always beautiful to learn of a couple who loved and didn’t lose it but this one sustained it for 79 years and counting. Their children say they still love doing romantic things together. If my husband and I don’t have this when we’re old, I don’t want it.
