If Desi Family Members Were Superheroes, This Is Who They’d Be

All of us, at some point in our lives, have dreamed about being superheroes, or at least, having some sort of superpowers. Alas, in wanting to be rational grown-ups, we brush aside the thought as quickly as we entertain it. But what if all of us had superpowers and we just didn’t know it? I mean, not exactly the kind you’d ideally we’d want but something?

Like our desi folks… don’t you think they could be superheroes minus the capes?

Mr Do-It-All, a.k.a. Dad

Need money? Dad. Need to carry that heavy bag of groceries? Dad. Need a ride to the mall? Dad. Flat tyre? Dad. Wanna learn how to play chess? Dad. Gotta get taxes done? Of course, Dad. He may not know it all, but he certainly gets it all done for us!

Superchef, a.k.a. Mom

For mother, food is love, and love is food. She’s the one who makes sure that there’s always something delicious to eat, and has this mind-blowing power to whip up a scrumptious meal out of scraps that normal people like you and I would throw in the trash.

The Bolt Machine, a.k.a Brother

Because he magically bolts at the slightest hint of drama.

The Forgiven, a.k.a. Sister

Sisters have a way of getting away with things brothers don’t. But, mostly it’s because they are cleverer.

The Ring Master a.k.a. Dada

He sits on his high chair silently observing everything that happens, pretending he doesn’t care. But, he’s the one who’s in on EVERYTHING because guess what? He probably started some of this mess!

The Fallen Angel, a.k.a. Dadi

Nobody listens to Dadi anymore, and she resents it. But, everybody loves her angelic presence. She may spend her day bickering and yelling at anyone who cares to cross paths with her, but she rests content knowing that she ties the crazy family together.

The Cuddly Clown, a.k.a. Nana

He comes. He entertains with his funny anecdotes and lame jokes we roll our eyes at, but secretly love. He showers us with love and warm bear hugs. He leaves.

The Love Machine, a.k.a. Nani

When Superchef gets a promotion, she becomes the Love Machine, with an unlimited supply of love and sweet stories that don’t need to spend gruelling hours in the kitchen for.

The Great Equaliser, a.k.a. The Family Dog

We all have our own dramas going on in life, and issues with each other that keep piling up. But, the moment the family pooch enters the scene, we all collectively gush over him, or her. The Great Equaliser cuts the drama, and brings in the love!
