5 Things To Stop Doing Running Up To Your Wedding, And 5 Things You Should Start!

Are you getting married this wedding season? Congratulations, soon-to-be-bride! The fact that you opened this article shows that you are excited about your big day, and maybe are a little (read: cuckoo level) nervous, too. It’s cool. In fact, it’s good to get the jitters because getting married is serious business. But, we’re here to do our job and make it a tad less anxiety-inducing. Read on…

1. Stop thinking that your wedding is about you.

Yes, of course, you are the bride, but the more pressure you put on yourself, the more overwhelmed you are likely to get. Your marriage is about you. Your wedding is just a big, fancy party that you are your families are throwing for themselves, and “society”. It’s true.

2. Stop expecting the wedding planning to be drama-free.

Yes, we all hate family drama. But, we also know that there is no family event ever without someone or the other picking a bone with someone else. Let go. It’s not important.

3. Stop expecting your wedding day to be perfect.

Perfect weddings exist only in movies. Now, even the fairy tale weddings in movies don’t come without some realistic show of a glitch (Remember the crescent moon falling off its hinges in Veere di Wedding? Yep, that’s real life.) Stop focusing so much on making everything perfect, whatever that means to you, and focus on making it fun instead!

4. Stop counting calories.

This may seem counter-intuitive to you, but if you must get fit for the wedding, don’t go the crash diet way (more on what you SHOULD do instead in a bit). You have enough to worry about!

5. Stop putting everything to the last minute.

There will be spa treatments, gym sessions, designer hopping, jewellery shopping, friends to meet, dance rehearsals, blah blah… You can’t do it all in a day! This is why people start planning their wedding well in advance.

This is what you shouldn’t do. But here’s what you should.

6. Start enjoying the company of your family and friends.

Immediate, and extended. Weddings and funerals are the only two times that families get together, really. So, shift the focus to them for a bit. You don’t know when you’ll get this opportunity again!

7. Start trying to find the balance between your work, and wedding shopping.

Because the next step for you will be to find the balance between your work, and your marriage. Start now, and prep yourself.

8. Start thinking about what’s really important.

Does that flower arrangement on your Pinterest board really have to be replicated to the T? Is it really such a bad thing if the DJ plays a few crappy songs as fillers? Smirnoff vs Absolut, will guests care as much as you think? A few drinks down, the brands will be a blur.

9. Start working out.

There’s truly no better way to manage stress, and like we mentioned earlier, if you must get fit, this is the way to do it. Not by crash dieting, guilting yourself every time you eat and all that.

10. Start focusing on having a great time!

Because, honestly that’s what a bride should be doing, and that’s the ONLY thing you and your guests will remember. People forget what you wore, or which chart toppers the DJ played. They remember how much fun they had, and that’s what you will cherish for the rest of your life, too!

Seen it all?

We’ve got more!
