Harmanpreet Kaur Leads India To Victory & Into The Women’s Cricket World Cup Finals
While some people are still disheartened about the fact that our Men In Blue lost to Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy finals last month, the nation is congratulating the Women’s cricket Team on a fantastic semi-final win.
That’s right! Team India has knocked off Australia from the tournament and paved their way to the ICC Women’s World Cup Cricket Finals, where they will play against England.
But this win was not possible without all-rounder Harmanpreet Kaur. The vice captain of the team came in at the number 4 slot and made a smashing 171 runs off 115 balls. A solid partnership of 66 runs with the captain Mithila Raj also gave her the kick she needed.
This small town girl from Moga, a village in Punjab, just gave her career’s best and proved that she is, along with the rest of the women’s team, here to stay.
Harmanpreet always had the support of her parents and that’s what made her travel 30 km one way by train, every day to her training academy. It was in 2009 that she made her debut in the World Cup that took place in Austrailia.
In 2014, she moved to Mumbai and joined the Western Railways. During that time, she was almost convinced that she didn’t want to play anymore, because there was no scope and recognition.
But, on the insistence of her coach and veterans of the game, she didn’t give up. And we are glad she didn’t.
And so is Twitter! People went crazy celebrating the brilliant innings played by Harmanpreet Kaur.
Jhulan Goswami and Shikha Pandey are the 2 other names that sizzled on the field yesterday and bowled like there is no tomorrow.
In Mithali Raj, Jhulan Goswami and Harmanpreet Kaur, young Indian girls now have three fine role models to seek to emulate.
