Will The Real, Fiery Faye D’Souza Please Come Back?

Will The Real, Fiery Faye D’Souza Please Come Back?

Even before I graduated, I knew I wanted to pursue journalism. It was all so exciting being the messenger of news, the person that knew everything first etc etc. I graduated with a degree in English Literature and went on to do by PG in journalism. Naturally, there were a few journalists I idolized, whose careers had reached heights I could only imagine aspiring to. Faye D’souza was one of my biggest inspirations- fiery, bold and fearless. The poise with which she carried herself to the clarity in her voice while she got hosted a panel debated really resonated with me and I knew that’s exactly what I wanted to do.

Faye D’souza is one of the most distinguished journalists of today. She was the executive editor of Mirror Now, though in September 2018, she resigned from that post and shifted to Romedy Now to host a celebrity talk show called Love Laugh Live. While we are super excited to watch her get up close and personal with celebrities, we can’t help but wonder what happened to the woman who interviewed Shashi Tharoor and shut a Maulana up for being too sexist? Why is she suddenly sitting on a couch of a yellow and blue set listening to Kareena Kapoor Khan talk about Taimur’s habits?

She’s a woman with a powerful voice. And we loved that about her. Now, the questions are the same ol’, the answers are jaded and we aren’t loving it. And aren’t there several shows with the same format? Vogue BFFs is on the same lines, Feet Up With The Stars is practically the same thing as well. Faye D’Souza had a niche and she owned it. She was the one strong female voice in a category saturated by males. And now, she’s just another talk show host? Why?

Faye rose to fame due to her debate segment called the Urban Debate, she facilitated the debates (without yelling at panelists, thank god) she dealt with issues like corruption, climate change, stock market changes, you get the picture. At the prime of her career she was the face of modern serious journalism and now seeing her reduced to just another talk show host is uninspiring. The set of the show, the format, her changed appearance is all very nice but extremely similar to every other talk show that does essentially the same damn thing. Talking to celebrities about things that they have said in multiple interviews and shows. Unlike her previous avatar she isn’t bringing anything new to the table and that is exactly makes me want to see her fiery version.

We aren’t saying she shouldn’t have jumped ship, it’s her career after all. All we are saying is we miss the old her the one that talked about LGBTQ issues on 15th August and put anyone that was out of line in their place without getting agitated.

Faye D’souza was once what every aspiring journalist wanted to be. She lent her voice to those who couldn’t speak up and talked about issues that matter. Now she’s bubbly and interesting but she’s also so much more. We are afraid we might never get to see her bold fiery side again.
