UP Police Schools People On Consent Using Clips From Darr And Pink. We Love How Smart This Is
No matter how many languages it gets translated to, how many times it get repeated or at what decibel does it get shouted from top off rooftops, there always remain to be a certain level of misunderstanding or miscommunication when it comes to comprehending a “no” coming out of a woman’s mouth. For some very disturbing reason, the concept of “consent” has always flown past people’s heads especially in context of women. Be it when we try to say no to a drink from a stranger at the bar, or to a colleague offering us a ride home with obviously vested interests , somehow our dissent is always confused with a hidden ‘yes’.
And while a lot of people, time and again, have made several efforts to make the society and most of all ‘men’ understand how consent is key and that it is the only thing that matters, seems like the UP police may have finally reached a breakthrough with their super creative effort.
Known for picking the best memes to make some of their own, a lot of police and law enforcement organisations take to social media to spread social messages in the most innovative manner. And doing just that while urging the importance of consent was the UP police when they came up with a rather convincing meme combining two movies – Darr and Pink!

Already making rounds on the internet, the clip formed by the twitter handle of UP police shows to have used clips from Juhi Chawla and Shah Rukh Khan’s 1993 movie Darr and Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu’s 2016 film Pink, posted with a caption that reads “What does Kiran’s no mean?”. And the answer becomes apparent from the video that concludes that “Kiran’s No means no. Consent matters.”
