UP Government Launches Pink Patrol In Lucknow As Part Of Mission Shakti To Promote Women’s Safety

Now that one too many rapes have taken place, the UP government is waking up to the fact that perhaps all’s not well in the state when it comes to the safety of women. And now, they are finally paying heed to the need of the hour and introducing solutions that might just help in preventing crimes against women. Coming from the Yogi Adityanath government in UP, because god knows the women there need protection, a new initiative of launching a ‘Pink Patrol‘ has been put into place to help safeguard the interests of women on the daily.

Employing up to  250 women police personnel in this new and special police unit, Pink Patrol will be a launched as a part of the Mission Shakti campaign, also marking the beginning of Navratri. At the moment, it has been set in motion in the state capital Lucknow, but is said to be soon extended into other districts of the Uttar Pradesh of as well, namely Kanpur, Agra, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Meerut, Noida, Ghaziabad and Moradabad.

The officers that have been added to this special unit have undergone a rigorous and intense training. As of now, almost 100 scootys and 10 SUVs have been put into service along with  the officers, to help facilitate the patrolling.

The purpose of the Pink Patrol shall be to keep a watchful eye, and take immediate action in case they suspect or spot any danger especially against women. The patrolling officers would be deployed in certain hotspots of Lucknow, where they know that crime always lurks around the corner for us women. A government spokesperson shared, “These will be initially stationed at places including girls’ colleges places where women move around in large numbers. Areas where cases of molestation take place will also be included.”

Apart from these, women’s complaints shall also be duly and immediately be taken note of, and suggestive patrolling basis the reports is also in the works. We know better than to expect criminals to fear the police, but knowing that the police has made a proactive step to stop a crime in its tracks rather than reach after it has taken place is bound to give women a little bit of hope.
