Twinkle Khanna Talks About Being An Imperfect Mother And It’s What Women Need To Hear

My mom was all of 24 years old when she gave birth to me. She was doing pretty well in her career at the point, she was in the running for senior management when she got pregnant with me, and not a single person who found out about it, went by without saying how it would be the right time to step aside to tend to her child. Except, my mother knew better and rather than making a choice between the two, she decided to tend to both of the duties with equal passion and care. After all, if my father could do it, so could my mother and she made sure of it. An attitude we see being the norm with a lot of young parents now, especially mothers, who refuse to give one thing up for the other, knowing pretty well that parenting doesn’t have to be perfect, it has to be real.

And striking a chord on the same topic is author Twinkle Khanna, aka Mrs. Funnybones who recently dropped some words of wisdom for young mothers who would often feel torn between their duties as a mother and everything else that they could be.

Sharing a monochrome picture of her with her daughter, where little Nitara is hugging her mother, Twinkle writes, “Our job is not to give our children perfect childhoods. It is to fill their heads with ideas, to honour their strengths and make them aware, but never underline their weaknesses. It involves loving them madly and throwing a few vegetables down their throats.”

Humanising mothers everywhere, considering that pressure from society can make you feel guilty and like you’ve to do everything perfectly, Twinkle Khanna hit just the right nerve with her powerful and relatable words.

She further went on to say, “We need to permanently dedicate a large number of our neurons towards their mosquito bites, bad grades and hurt feelings. And we must do all of this, day after day, without losing sight of everything we are and can be, along with being their mothers. #perfectlyimperfectparenting.”

Known for her candid banter and captions, Twinkle Khanna is a sound example of how one woman can don as many hats as she’d like, along with one of motherhood. A successful producer, author, columnist and former actress, Twinkle’s advice resonated with the netizens as well as they reacted to the post with hearts and affirmations.
