At the risk of sounding a little frou frou, I do believe that the good that we ever do for others, is returned to us and with interest. Call it karma, or just a well-timed coincidence, but whatever actions and thoughts you put out in the universe, is exactly what the universe will create for you. And if there is one thing that we’ve learnt in this pandemic (apart from washing those bartans), it is that a little gratitude for what we have and compassion can go a long way. A thought mirrored by Ayushmann Khurrana and Tahira Kashyap, who are bringing the festival of Rakhi alive in the most selfless and kindest way possible.

It is true that Covid-19 has left most of us in a fix. But for those who are still struggling day in and day out to make ends meet, this year has been absolutely brutal. And to have think of such people and rise to the occasion to help them out is just wonderful.

Tahira and husband Ayushmann are working to raise money for waste collectors in Delhi.  The couple has joined hands with the NGO Gulmeher that is taking the initiative to help out waste-collectors who have been given the task of creating handmade rakhis for the upcoming festival of Raksha Bandhan.

These women have been working hard to find an honest way to earn more money and supporting 200 such women is an NGO that Tahira and Ayushmann are supporting.

Ayushmann also took to his social media and Instagram to spread a word about this initiative and wrote, “Tahira and I are deeply and emotionally invested in Gulmeher. The organisation is doing outstanding work to support this needy segment of the population in Delhi. With the pandemic, they are most at risk and are also economically vulnerable. Their flow of income has been impacted greatly.”

He then went on to talk about what this festival symbolises and highlighted the need of the hour, which is to support everyone who needs our help right now. He said, “Rakhi symbolises love and a bond between brothers and sisters. Them making Rakhis for the fellow citizens of our country to buy and support their cause symbolises a celebration of self-reliance. Let’s support our fellow brothers and sisters. We want to empower them so that they can have various avenues to generate income & support their families. We feel that’s a step in the right direction.”

And considering how blessed we are to be in a position to be at home and safe, it would certainly help if we could support  cause like this. We laud the couple for their effort!
