Sushant Singh Rajput’s death was extremely tragic and opened up a whole can of worms. We don’t know why he took this drastic step and the truth is, we will never know. Why is it so difficult for people to accept that? Why are we playing the blame game? His death is surrounded by conspiracy and controversy and no, not the interesting kind. This whole situation has gotten uglier. It’s highly shameful how we have behaved in the face of such tragedy.
Don’t get wrong, but I don’t believe that we must have all answers. Like I have said earlier, it’s not any of our business to know why Sushant committed suicide. This isn’t hot industry gossip. But, I guess netizens are too busy playing the “let’s blame the girlfriend” game to realise just how messed up it is.
Okay, before I go any further, I should bring you’ll up to speed. Ever since the news of Sushant’s demise broke, his girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty has been receiving truckloads of social media hate. People are accusing of outrageous things without one shred of evidence. They have been taking full advantage of the anonymity that social media provides. She has been subjected to abuses, rape threats, murder threats, slut-shamed and even called India’s most hated woman. For what?

All this cyber-bullying really came to light when on Sushant’s one month death anniversary, she put up a heartwarming post in his memory. Her name was trending Twitter all day long and people just kept spewing hate and it was incredibly difficult to watch. But honestly, on what basis are they calling her a murderer and accusing her of abetting Sushant’s suicide? It’s disgusting that we no empathy left.
Like most celebrities who are being subjected to online bullying, Rhea ignored these abusers. Although, just a few days after her loved-up post for Sushant, she took to Instagram to share a screenshot of a woman threatening to get her raped and murdered if she doesn’t commit suicide as well. Along with the screenshot, Rhea wrote a strongly-worded message to shut down all the trolls. She also asked for Mumbai police’s cyber cell to look into this and take necessary action.

You know we are going down a dark and dangerous rabbit hole when women are threatening to get other women raped and murdered.
Anyway, the good news is that according to the latest reports, Rhea has lodged a complaint with the Mumbai Police who have filed an FIR against two Instagram users for threatening her. The case has been registered with the Santacruz police who are taking the help of the cyber cell to track down these two Instagram users.
Santacruz police station’s senior inspector Shriram Koregaonkar told Mid-Day, “We registered the First Information Report (FIR) on Saturday under Indian Penal Code Sections 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication), 509 (intending to insult modesty of any woman) and relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act.”
He further added, “No arrest has been made so far. We are conducting an investigation in the case.”

It’s really nice to see the police finally taking online bullying seriously. In just a few days of Rhea requesting an investigation, they have lodged an FIR and are looking into the matter. Hopefully, this is will cause people to refrain from bullying Rhea or anyone else online.
What kind of justice do they think they are doing Sushant by brutally abusing and threatening Rhea? Why are rape and murder the first things we jump to? This is pure hatred and it is not a good look. Social media has been prosecuting Rhea and this sort of nonsensical threats to her personal safety have to be stopped.
We need to let the police to follow the due course of law and hope they find whoever is threatening Rhea. Cyberbullying is not the answer to anything, it’s high time we understand that.
