Here Is Your Ultimate Instagram Bali Travel Guide

With the travel season on in full swing and most of us looking at international destinations for our next holiday, one place that has become immensely popular with travellers is Bali, Indonesia.

Named as one of the best destinations to travel to this year, Bali has something for everybody. Whether it’s a bachelorette you’re planning or a luxury destination wedding; whether you want to go on a backpacking trip or a family vacation, the lovely island is literally a one-stop destination for it all. Plus, it helps that the tickets are dirt cheap.

You can get round-trip flight tickets for around 25-30K for the month of June, departing from all major Indian cities. So, before the prices (and your blood pressure) start increasing, I suggest you book them before it’s too late!

Where To Stay?

If you are travelling solo or with friends, then you’re probably looking for budget options, for which hostels are your best bet. There are plenty of hostels in Kuta, Denpasar (capital), and Ubud, which are also the most popular regions of Bali. Take a look at them here.

Seminayak is another place that is always bustling and though there aren’t many homestays there, you can opt for a good mid-range hotel, such as the Tijili Hotel, where you can book one night’s stay for around Rs 2,000.

But if this vacation is one where you want to splurge and live the king’s life, then there are a plethora of options as well. The quiet, peaceful village of Canggu should be on your must-visit list, so if you are planning to spend a night there, then so check out Ametis Villa, which has a gorgeous view and rooms that will give you some seriously royal feels.

How To Travel Within The Island?

You may be used to using Uber wherever you go, but this won’t work in Bali, as private taxi services are banned, and even though they are prevalent discreetly, my advice would be to steer clear from using them.

You can rent a car and a driver, if you don’t have an international license, but that could cost you a bomb, so the best and easiest way to move around is by ojeks, which are the local motorbikes. You can book one using this app.

Another option is to use Bemos, local mini vans which are widely used by the locals to go from one place to another.

What To Do?

There are more than enough things to do in this serene island that is the pride of Indonesia. The Uluwatu temple, situated at the edge of a cliff in the Bukit peninsula overlooking the sea, is one of the country’s most important tourist destinations. Surrounding it is the Monkey Forest that you can visit too.

The best way to visit the temples, though, would be to dedicate a whole day to them. Hire a taxi and make a tour out of it. Apart from the Uluwatu temple, there are the Besaikh temple, and Tanah Lot temple, from where you will witness a gorgeous sunset. Also visit the La Plancha cafe, which is right on the beach.

Bali is known for yoga and herbal healing techniques. There are tons of herbal and yoga centres here, almost at every nook and corner of the island town, where you can enroll and relax.

Dreamland beach is a speck of heaven for all you surfers or even for those who want to experience a relaxing beach stay. Beach massage therapists are a thing too, and you can enjoy relaxing massages at low rates.

‘Pasar Seni Ubud’ or the Ubud art market is a mecca for shoppers. From bags to scarves, hats to handmade baskets, you will find just about everything here.

If beaches don’t sound inviting to you, maybe a visit to the still-active volcano, Mount Batur, is what you need to get you going. The view from there is absolutely breathtaking.

Take a walk in the rice terraces, especially the Jatiluwih rice terrace, which is located in the western part of Bali. This is the perfect opportunity to photograph memories and experience something new.

Or just hop on to a ferry and visit the Gili islands for a little peace and quiet!

What To Eat And Where?

The Balinese Kopi (coffee) is one of a kind and a USP of the island. It is found everywhere you go and you cannot end your trip without having a cuppa!

Pisang Goreng or fried bananas is one of the most popular desserts there, so much so that there are roadside stalls dedicated to this delicacy.

When in Bali, you must visit the Nook, which is a quaint little restaurant right in the middle of the rice fields. A meal there will fill your senses with utmost satisfaction. Another highly recommended restaurant is the Old Man’s Cafe in Cannung, which livens up the sleepy village.

Apart from the staples like Nasi Goreng, Sate (Satay), BBQ Pork Ribs, and Smoked Duck, Bali boasts of an interesting western culture. You will find an umpteen number of cafes serving bacon and eggs, waffles, burgers, and more. Plus, they have the cutest interiors ever!

Visit La Laguna for its gypsy-themed decor and a meal at the beach and Sari Organik for a wholesome, organic, and local experience.
