I absolutely love the excitement associated with travelling. I find packing for a trip super fun. Well, only the bits where I have to pop my clothes and cosmetics into a bag. But very often, I find all my cosmetics in a total mess by the time I arrive at my destination. Broken compacts, lipstick smudges all over the insides of your bag — I’ve seen all of that at some point.

Even if you carry your stash in a makeup bag, there are certain tricks we’re sure you didn’t know about.

So to help you all out and to ensure that none of you ever face these sticky problems again, I’ve put together a list of handy tips that’ll keep your cosmetics safe while travelling. You don’t have to worry if you hear an ominous clatter from the depths of your bag anymore. Your cosmetics will be safe and secure if you follow these 7 tips.

1. Make Bottles Spill-Proof

From perfume bottles to your bottles of foundation and shampoos, keep ’em all from spilling inside your bags. How? Well, just unscrew the lids and add a bit of cellophane paper around the mouth of the bottle. Then put the lid back on tight and you’re good to go.

2. Keep Compacts From Breaking

There something awfully depressing about your compact cracking into pieces. Keep that from happening by placing round pieces of cotton inside before shutting the lid. The extra padding provided by the cotton pieces will ensure that this horrendous thing doesn’t happen ever again!

3. Protect Glass Bottles

Needless to say, carrying a glass bottle of perfume or any other beauty product unprotected in your bag is foolish. Be smart this time by placing glass bottles inside a woollen sock or wrapping it inside a thick towel, before placing it in your bags.

4. Seal Your Brushes

If you haven’t been cleaning your makeup brushes regularly, they’re bound to stain the insides of your makeup bag. To keep that from happening, you can either clean your brushes or, (if you don’t have the time) place them inside a little Ziplock pouch before stowing it inside. Easy peasy!

5. Pack Tight

Even with all your makeup tools inside a makeup bag, there are times when two or more products rattle against each other, resulting in breakage or damage that can be heartbreaking. So play it safe by placing a thick sock or a thick scarf inside your makeup bag to give it that much-needed extra padding. Your products will be safe, guaranteed!

6. Opt For Face Wipes

How many times have you carried a tube of facewash with you while traveling, only to have it accidentally blow up inside your bag? Avoid that messy situation by carrying face wipes instead. It won’t take up too much space and you can even choose from dozens of different options.

7. Use Travel-Sized Samples

If you want to avoid these pesky situations altogether, you could always choose to carry travel-sized bottles of shampoos, conditioners, or makeup products. That way, you can rest assured that they’re going to stay intact.
