This Quarantine Got Me Watching The Show Special Ops And This Is Why You Should Watch It Too!

As 3 am becomes the new 12 am for people around the country, and staying home during quarantine turns into a new sort of a normal, there have been quite a few lifestyle changes that have dawned upon all of us, one of the major one being that we’re now becoming binge watchers. A habit we’d conveniently like to blame entirely on the Coronavirus outbreak, and that means sitting hours in front of your screen trying to find good content to consume. And during one such hunt for a TV show or a movie, I came across a series that was capable of keeping me hooked.

Writer and director, Neeraj Pandey has given us great movies like A Wednesday!Baby, but also movies like Aiyaary, so we were rather conflicted in what we should expect from his new Hotstar original show, Special Ops. With a cast as special as the name of the show, we saw Kay Kay Menon come back to the screen and remind us why he should have never left. Accompanied by some seasoned and brilliant actors, like Vinay Pathak, Karan Tacker, Sayami Kher, Meher Vij, Muzamil Ibrahim, Sana Khan, Gautami Kapoor, Divya Dutta, Vipul Gupta and Sajjad Delafrooz, the cast is reason enough to give this series a chance.

Following the life of Kay Kay Menon, aka Himmat Singh in the show, who is a RAW officer and a handler for various secret agents spread across the world, the show starts with an audit inquiry happening on Himmat Singh, questioning him of the large sums of money he had spent over the years. As the story progresses, it ties itself to two major terror attacks, one in 2011 on the parliament house, and one the 26/11 terror attack in Mumbai.

The story moves forward and we are given little insights into each character. I won’t give out details because I don’t want to be a spoil-er sport but this stuff is really, really good.

During the course of the show, we are peek into lives of the 5 agents that work for Himmat Singh, Karan Tacker aka Farooq takes up most of the screen time while other characters like Ruhani Syed Khan (Meher Vij), Balakrishna Reddy (Vipul Gupta), Avinash (Muzzamil Ibrahim), and Juhi Kashyap (Saiyami Kher) are shown in moderation. Shot in international locations like Dubai, Istanbul, Tehran and Tbilisi, the show is a delight not just for the eyes, but for anyone with an appetite for a thriller.

All throughout, Kay Kay Menon steals the limelight with his convincing performance, sometimes as an agent, sometimes as a handler and other times as a loving husband and father.

This show is the perfect way to keep you glued for eight long episodes and keep you engaged. A solid recommendation from my side, especially if you’re into patriotic and thrilling drama kinda shows!
