This Policeman From Gujarat Forced His Wife To Drink Acid And Then Punched Her Repeatedly

In an ideal world, there would be no corruption in our system. Every branch would do its job perfectly and our society would run smoothly, without glitches. But we don’t live in an ideal world, do we? Which is why it should come as no surprise when I tell you that a police officer has just been accused of domestic abuse. Yes, the cruel irony is not lost on us. And it’s one of the most gruesome and vile cases I have read. The cop allegedly forced his wife to drink acid and then repeatedly punched her when she asked him to take her to the hospital. The entire ordeal is hard-hitting and inhumane. 

The accused, Ashok Chauhan, is a police constable posted in Ahmedabad city’s Ranip area. He allegedly forced his wife, Jayshree Chauhan, to ingest acid and then thrashed her. According to Jayshree’s police complaint though, she has been abused at the hands of her husband and in-laws for a long time. This isn’t even the first time she was beaten up. The abuse began shortly after their wedding in 2015.

The incident in question occurred because one week ago, Jayshree got into a fight with Ashok’s sister about an outfit, a chaniya choli, in this case. Upon finding out that his wife had fought with his sister, Ashok began hurling abuses at Jayshree and mercilessly thrashed her. But wait, it gets worse. He forced her to drink acid. After that, when Jayshree asked him to take her to the doctor he started punching her repeatedly. She was later rushed to the hospital by her neighbours. 

This is horrifying. What is even worse is that Ashok is a cop himself. He is supposed to be the one ensuring women’s safety. It’s shameful and disgusting. It’s sickening to see women suffer every day at the hands of assholes like this man. We can only hope that despite being a cop, he is punished for his inhumane crime.

The last time Ashoke thrashed Jayshree was when someone damaged the motorcycle that her parents had given him as dowry. He beat her up for it saying that the scooter was of poor quality. She didn’t speak up at the time thinking that it will get better. However, when he beat her up again, she decided to reach out for help. 

When is the world going to learn that women are not punching bags. We are not an object you use to vent out anger. This year, we fought two pandemics. COVID 19 and its shadow pandemic- domestic abuse. We need a world that is safe for women and we need it now.
