This New Nike Ad Will Inspire You And Bring You To Tears
I am a writer, and as part of working for a publication, I constantly have to be on social media and internet keeping up with what is going on. And today, while scrolling down my feed, I came across, what I would call the best thing I have seen all day.
Nike just released an ad on its Instagram handle which had Serena William’s voice over in the background talking about how we need to celebrate the ‘crazy’ in every woman. The one and a half minute long ad, features various sportswomen- the kind that have had battles of their own and emerged victorious – to do themselves, their nation and us women, proud.
From Olympic winner in snowboarding – Chloe Kim to Katherine Switzer, the first woman to run the Boston Marathon, Nike has covered several women who were firsts in their fields, battling not just mindsets and rules but even physical retaliation. The women who waged a war against norms in sports that were once only open to the men.
Released during the 2019 Oscars telecast, this had since then has had over 9 million views and several appreciative and supportive tweets.
The Nike ad deserves some kind of Oscar, too #justsayin

And as much as anti-feminists would like to make this out to be something of a controversy, this ad is not a political statement. This ad is just a reminder of how hard women have had to work to prove everyone else wrong, so they can continue moving towards what is right. This commercial had very little to do with belittling men, and far more to do with uplifting the women.
This ad is motivation, it is proof that nothing can tame us or our crazy dreams and the only thing standing between us and achieving them, are we, ourselves. I’d be lying if I said I did not watch this commercial 10 times straight and had goosebumps every single time. Nike has said just what was needed to be told, “If they want to call you crazy, fine. Show them what crazy can do.” And that is exactly what we’re going to do.
