This Man Would Not Let His Wife Enter The House After A Three Month Separation Because He Feared She Would Infect Him. We Need To Calm Down

It’s a good time to be alive. We have everything we need and more right at our fingertips, thanks to social media and the internet. But all that technology also has its downsides. There is a burst of information, for instance. And by that, I mean there is so much information about one topic out there that we find it difficult to decipher what to follow and what to ignore. The abundance of information is not a good thing because it only leads to more confusion and chaos.

Especially when it comes to something as crucial as the protocols to follow during a pandemic. In the past few months, so much has been spoken about social distancing and quarantines that people have no idea what or who to believe any more. It has led to a lot of people being left stranded and helpless during these dangerous times, even by their own families.

Today, we are talking about a 38-year-old woman who was not allowed to enter her house because she was separated from her family for three months. It’s things like this that are not needed but happen because Whatsapp forwards and an influx of information through unverified sources.

When the lockdown was suddenly imposed in March, this woman was stuck for three months in Chandigarh with no way to return to her family who lives in Bengaluru. Once inter-state travel began opening up, she decided to finally return home to her husband and 10-year-old son.

When she arrived, however, her husband did not let her into the house. He was too scared of her being infected with the virus so he insisted that she must quarantine herself elsewhere for 14 days and get a COVID 19 negative certificate before entering the house. He’s definitely not winning ‘husband of the year.’

With nowhere to go, this woman, who is a resident of Ambedkar Nagar on Sarjapur Road in Bengaluru, called up the Parihar Vanitha Sahayavani (women’s helpline) around midnight. This happened about a week ago. The cell counselled her husband and corrected any misconceptions that he so clearly had about the coronavirus. He then allowed his wife into the house.

According to TOI though, the woman has filed a complaint with the Bengaluru city police. It was the police who insisted that the husband let her back into the house.

The counsellors from the women’s cell revealed that the couple were having troubles in their marriage for a while now and that the husband was scared the wife would infect him and his son. Though now, the woman is going home quarantine.

The guideline for inter-state travellers is pretty clear and had been released only a week before the woman’s arrival. According to the guidelines, those arriving from other states, except Maharashtra, would be required to quarantine themselves in their homes for 14 days.

Look, this is a scary situation and it can get very overwhelming and confusing sometimes especially because of the uncertainty and overload of information. However, there is no need to turn away family members or even neighbours and leave them stranded. There is a surging stigma when it comes to the coronavirus and while that is partly understandable, abandoning your family out of fear is not.
