This IAS Officer and IPS Officer Ditched A Big Fat Indian Wedding To Marry In A Government Office And We All Can Learn From Them!

Okay, I am never going to agree to this (voluntarily at least), but my mother points out that I am kind of a cribber when I don’t get my way in certain situations. It can be something as simple as not getting mint chutney with my chicken tikka or a story not doing as well as expected on the work front, chances are that the moment things would start to go south, I’d be throwing a fit about it, making the lives of people around me miserable. Come to think of it, my mother isn’t entirely wrong in branding me a cribber, and truth be told, it only worsens things for me than making it better. And we say this after having read about and learnt from this couple, who has won some major brownie points on the coupling front and have made quite the case for why one must learn to go with the flow.

In a sunny positive and rather unexpected piece of news, we came across a couple that ditched the conventional ways of getting married, to tie the knot in a government office on the Valentine’s day. The groom, an IAS officer, Tushar Singla and the bride, an IPS officer Navjot Simmi decided to do away with the pressure of a big fat Indian wedding and married each other in the most simplest yet inspiring ways.

Hailing from Gujarat, the couple that had been together for quite some time now had been trying to make time to take their relationship to the next level by getting married, but the positions both of them held in their career, they were unable to travel to Punjab for the big day. Not letting work pressure and the kind of commitment they had going get the better of them, they decided to bring the wedding to them than going elsewhere for it.

The two set up the marriage on paper in their very office, in which the process of registry was taken care of in Sangla’s office. After the signatures had been taken, the two were legally announced husband and wife on paper with legitimacy, the two promised a grand reception for celebration, but only in the year 2021 after state assembly elections in Bengal were done with. And if that is not some sort of epitome of work commitment but also love, we don’t know what is.

In fact, the State Minister and Howrah district president Arup Roy commented on the matter and said, “There is nothing wrong in this. The registry of the marriage is also a legal process. Therefore, there should be no dispute regarding the marriage being held in the government office.” Furthermore he added, “Both of them have just signed. No banquet has happened there. There is no question of dispute in this situation. I don’t think there is any problem with the two people getting married in a government office. It is nowhere an offence for me. Perhaps he was on duty, as a result of which he did it in office. The two of them just signed the papers. But there has been no celebration. Hence I don’t find it to be offensive,” and we agree.

The couple in question has clearly given out some perspective to everyone out there, who find it difficult to look beyond superficiality, and proven that love and commitment can go hand in hand, if you’re really up for it. Understanding each other, is the need of the hour, the two did what was necessary and what they wanted instead of listening to that one chachaji who would’ve made it to the wedding to nit pick on the decorations or lack there of.
