This Durga Puja Pandal In West Bengal Depicts Goddess Durga As A Doctor Killing The Coronavirus. We Are Loving This Tribute

Not a single day has gone by where I didn’t wake up wishing that the coronavirus just magically disappears. I am sure you understand the sentiment. However, the unfortunate truth is that it’s not going to happen anytime soon. But that doesn’t mean that we lose hope. After all, we have some of the best doctors and nurses fighting this war for us on the frontlines. These heroes risk their lives every day to save ours. Their courage is an inspiration. In fact, people in West Bengal have come up with a very unique way to pay them homage. Yes, it’s better than banging steel plates on your window. You see, pictures of Durga Maa dressed as a doctor who is killing the coronavirus have gone viral.

In fact, amid the pandemic coronavirus-themed Durga Puja pandals are the latest trend. Just a few days ago, in a Kolkata neighbourhood, there was a statue of Goddess Durga dressed as a migrant mother. This was done to pay tribute to all the migrant workers who bore the brunt of this pandemic.

And now, an artist in Kolkata has reimagined Durga Maa dressed as a doctor killing “coronasur”. Isn’t it an amazing way to appreciate all the efforts our medical professionals are putting into this fight against the coronavirus? The pictures of this very creative pandal are going viral online. Of course, a lot of people don’t appreciate this because it diverts from traditional norms. But hey, isn’t the end of the pandemic what everyone is wishing for right now?

The photos show Goddess Durga wearing a lab coat with a stethoscope around her neck. She is holding a giant syringe which she is using to kill a coronavirus-shaped Mahisasur. According to the pictures, the goddess’s four children have been depicted as other frontline Covid-warriors while Lord Ganesh has been shown as a police officer. This is honestly the most realistic pandal ever! Goddess Laxmi represents a nurse while the goddess Saraswati is a teacher. Kartik is depicted as a cleaner.

This pandal is making headlines for its uniqueness. However, details of its origin are kind of hazy. A lot of people are saying that idol had been made in Siliguri in North Bengal by sculptor Jiten Paul. But some people are also saying that idol is from Jharkhand and Assam. Basically, there is no clarity on who made this beautiful idol. Whoever it is though, deserves an award.

The idol caught the attention of a lot of people including everyone’s favourite Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. My fascination with this man has nothing to do with politics. Anyway, after coming across these pictures he took to Twitter to write, “Brilliantly appropriate #covid19-themed Durga Puja creativity from Kolkata, with the goddess slaying the virus! Salutations to the unknown designer & sculptor”.

Durga Puja is a festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil. This pandal is today’s version of that story. Doctors and nurses fighting the evil coronavirus that is terrorizing us much like the demon Mahisasur. They really need more appreciation and gratitude than they are getting. Banging our plates and thalis by our windows is only going to increase noise pollution. This is the way to actually pay them a tribute for all the amazing work that they are doing.
