The Happy Jar Trend On TikTok Is About Spreading Positivity And Happiness. Finally A Trend We Can All Get Behind

There is a meme going around that reads- I am not adding 2020 to my age, I did not use it. Yep, it’s hilarious because it’s so true. All we are doing this year is existing because 2020 has single-handedly managed to squash all our dreams, hopes and plans. Even if you keep the pandemic aside, all the worst things that can happen in nature are happening all around the world- earthquakes, insect attacks, Uttarakhand forest fire, chemical gas blasts, even a heatwave is going around. The first 6 months of 2020 have been no short of an apocalypse and who knows what’s still brewing on the horizon?

On one hand, it sure feels like dementors are sucking all the happiness out of our world (if you don’t get this reference, please use this lockdown to read the Harry Potter books!) but on the other, more gleeful, hand we have learned how to stop and smell the roses and that is something we hadn’t done in a long time. This lockdown has been tough, no doubt but if you see the glass half full, you will be able to see how it has given us a chance to reboot and regroup. But we don’t always look at the optimistic side of things, do we? Being cynical is much easier.

However, there comes a time when you have to remind yourself to be happy and recognize the small joys even in the face of adversity. And that is exactly why, some super creative netizens have come up with a TikTok trend that is the perfect way to capture these moments of joy and spread positivity during these dark times. Yep, a TikTok trend that spreads positivity. Didn’t think it was possible, did you?

This trend called Happy Jar requires its participant to take a jar of any shape, size or colour and name it “the happy jar” (or anything else to this effect). After doing this, If they want, they can paint their jars to the best of their creative abilities but, this is optional. Next, they have to write down their happiest memories from this year, however small it might be, on a piece of paper and put it in this jar. The participant then has to open the jar at the end of this horrid year, and they will see that despite all the bad things happening, just how much they have to be happy and thankful about.

Finally, there is a TikTok trend that aims at spreading positivity instead of mocking people with disabilities or leaving girls with an ice burn in their vaginas. I think this is the one good thing TikTok has done throughout this lockdown and maybe that will go in my jar.
