5 Easy Ways To Speed Up A Slow Laptop!

By  |

In this go-go-go world, anything that is slow or sluggish is instantly chucked out. We all want things done yesterday, right? The most frustrating bit is having a laptop that is super slow. How on earth can you manage to get any work done if your laptop takes some 15 minutes to process a command? Even at the Hauterfly HQ, a slow laptop makes us jittery and restless. But now that we’ve found these really cool and simple hacks, I doubt we’ll ever face this problem again.

If you have a laptop that is akin to the slow tortoise as against the quick hare, we have help! Keep scrolling to find out what you need to do to speed up that slow laptop.

1. Quit Programs/Apps That You Aren’t Using

We often tend to keep a number of programs or apps running in the background, while we finish up with some other work. These open programs tend to take up a lot of your laptop’s memory and speed, which is why it runs so slowly. So, always make sure to shut any programs or apps that you aren’t currently using.

2. Shut Unnecessary Tabs

Guilty! I’m kinda used to having multiple tabs open in my browser, at given time. Turns out that this can make your laptop annoyingly slow! Each tab that you open in your browser requires a specific amount of memory to run on. Obviously, so many tabs equals that much memory, resulting in a slow laptop. Well, now I know!

3. Delete Unwanted Apps/Files

Are you one of those people who has an insanely cluttered desktop? If yes, then you, my friend, need to start cleaning up! The presence of those apps and files that you no longer need or use turns your laptop into a wreck, in terms of speed. So, free up some space by deleting these unwanted files and apps, and watch your laptop come back to life.

4. Check For Software Updates

An updated laptop is a healthy laptop. Make sure your laptop is updated with the latest software. Otherwise, it’s going to be nothing but slow! If you own a MacBook, just select App Store from the Apple menu at the top left corner of your screen and check for any software updates. Windows’ users can go to Settings → Update and Security → Windows Update and then check for the latest updates. It’s as simple as that!

5. Restart Your Laptop

When all else fails, you still have one option: restart. Restarting your laptop works well a number of times. So, if none of these steps seem to work for you, there’s no harm in restarting your device and then checking out its speed.
