Instagram’s New Feature Is A Boon For Shopaholics

We literally said goodbye to mid-week woes after hearing this news! Two of our most favourite things — Instagram and shopping — are soon going to be one. In a tentative idea by the popular social media platform, Instagram photos will now come with the shop icons, which allows us to buy things straight off the site. Definitely a great step for the brands and users alike.

In a test phase that is going to roll out sometime next week, 20 brands have been selected to see if and how this plan will actually work. Brands like Kate Spade, JackThreads, and Warby Parker are among the chosen ones. But we have to be patient, as this option will currently only work for a few lucky iOS users, in the United States. So, if you are on the other side of the globe, try updating your app and see if you get lucky!

How does this work? It’s simple. Brands need to click images and post, like they always do. A new ‘tap to view’ icon will appear on the lower left-hand side corner that, once clicked, will showcase the products in the image, individually. Each image can have up to 5 products. Once each product is opened, you can write a small description about it, below the image. Also, there will be a ‘Shop Now’ icon that will directly take you to the site from where you can purchase the product.

Easy? If not, just take a look at the quick video above and join us in our excitement about this amazing new feature! I don’t even know why they are testing it out — they have practically solved a major first-world problem.
