Taapsee Pannu Drops The First Poster For Mithali Raj’s Biopic Shabaash Mithu And Slams Sexism With Her Caption
These are exciting times that we are living in. With a shift in power and the change of narrative that was earlier always male dominated, we now see women not just stepping up and taking charge but also making up for lost time, by giving it back fair and square. Not in workplaces, not at home, not in relationships and definitely not with sexist statements. And we are going to take those sexist statements, turn them into war cries and use them against you. A sentiment that has been expressed by actress Taapsee Pannu. Taapsee is all set to play Mithali Raj, the former captain of the Indian women’s national cricket team and she released the first poster look for the movie Shabaash Mithu.
And we have to admit, we are impressed by it. Showing Taapsee, concentrating on the shot she seems to have just taken, looking fierce and focused in the blue national jersey, and the iconic blue cap, Taapsee managed to capture the sentiment just right in this one. And while it does seem pretty run-of-the-mill. But what made it different was her caption.
Taking to the social media sites and uploading it on her personal Insta handle, Taapsee Pannu’s caption took us back to the time when Mithali Raj gave a befitting reply to a rather sexist question that was put to her, but makes sense even now. She captioned it saying, “I have always been asked who’s your favourite male cricketer but you should ask them who their favourite female cricketer is.” The statement that made every cricket lover pause n introspect that do they love the game or the gender playing it.@M_Raj03 you are a ‘Game Changer’”

Quoting this from an incident that took place ahead of the ICC Women’s World Cup in 2017, the Indian skipper the and caption, in one swoop stroke, smashed the deep-rooted patriarchy in that question how. And we couldn’t agree more with what the actress had to say. Making not just us but womankind proud with the effort, hard work and talent she has put out there, Mithali Raj has emerged as a symbol of power and a hope for change for most of us. Living out her dreams and motivating several young women to pursue theirs, Mithali Raj has become a beacon of hope and with the kind of laurels she has earned the country, her biopic coming along only seemed fair.

More so, as Taapsee Pannu steps into playing the role, for there really could have been no better choice than the actress who is making way in the industry for being just as fierce and a go-getter, we are excited to see how this turns out. Mithali Raj also thanked Taapsee on the micro-blogging site as she wrote, “Thanks @taapsee !! Looking forward to you bringing life to my story on the big screen!”
Titled as Shabaash Mithu, the movie is directed by Rahul Dholakia and is set to hit the theatres on 5th February, 2021. With ample time on our hands to sit and wait for the movie to drop in, we have our started our countdown already.
