Sonam Kapoor Tweets About Crackers On 5th April. Twitter Calls It Double Standards

One of the quickest ways,  I have come to notice, to climb on top of the ‘trending’ list of every publication or even social media sites in this day and age, is by being a celebrity in the Bollywood industry, and having a spine to say what you feel. Having spent most of their life under the unforgiving eyes of the paparazzi, stars have never had it easy. The Zoya Factor actress Sonam Kapoor Ahuja recently featured at the top of twitter trends after her tweets about what happened on Sunday while citizens came out to light diyas became news.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked us to show a united front on Sunday, 5th April, and citizens were asked to come to their balconies and light diyas in a way to show faith and revive hopes. Again, things again went a little out of hand. Most of the people understood the sentiment behind this #9pm9minute gesture, but as usual there were a select few who couldn’t care less about the cause. These were the people who were taking this opportunity as a way to burst the left-over fire crackers from Diwali.

Bursting crackers, releasing sky shots in the air – people went a little too far in being optimistic and showing solidarity. So, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja wrote, “People are bursting crackers. Just FYI. The dogs are freaking out. Do people think it’s Diwali? I’m so confused.” In a following up tweet, Sonam further wrote, “here was complete peace and quiet, and now the birds, dogs and sirens are freaking out in south Delhi because some morons decided to burst fire crackers tonight.”

And as the tweets went around, they went viral and the matter started getting a little too personal. Twitterati, not amused at Sonam’s take, dug out her old pictures where fire crackers were set off during her own wedding, And thus, Sonam and twitterati went to war.

One user wrote, “Aww… So much concern for animals! What happened during the video below?” while another one wrote, “You are confused. Thats normal for you”, pointing at the video where crackers were being lit by her family on occasion of her wedding. Not keeping quiet, Sonam too replied to the trolls head on and wrote, “I’m so glad you see common sense. That there is a time and place for everything.”

She then posted another tweet, borrowing a quote from Mark Twain and wrote, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience,” making her point and her stand crystal clear. The actress is currently quarantining with her husband Anand Ahuja in Delhi, ever since they returned from London.
