So No One Is Going To Talk About How Love Aaj Kal’s First Poster Looks Like Another Tamashaa? Imtiaz Ali Certainly Has A Style
It so happens, and you can’t really blame me for it, that everytime Bollywood drops in a new song, a new trailer or even a poster for an upcoming movie, we are instantly hit with a sort of a ‘deja vu’ kind of a feeling. With remixes becoming the only songs that we hear coming in now, to watching adaptations from books and old movies being taken up, we have somewhere accepted that originality is no longer a Bollywood pursuit. And something similar happened today when we came across the first look poster of the movie Love Aaj Kal.

Imitiaz Ali’s upcoming film, Love Aaj Kal that is pegged to be on the same lines of the original that starred actors Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone, will now see newbie actors Sara Ali Khan and Kartik Aaryan taking the story forward as Zoe and Veer in this part. Announced by way of the first look poster that has just been dropped by the actors on their official Instagram accounts, Sara and Kartik have introduced their characters by captioning it, “Meet Veer and Zoe Come get wound up in our whirlwind wonderland #LoveAajKal Trailer out tomorrow.”
And while this has indeed instilled a sense of curiosity and excitement in us Bollywood buffs, what it has instilled more is an uncanny resemblance that it holds to another one of Imtiaz Ali’s own movie – Tamashaa. I mean look closely and think about it. The same pose, the same emotion, and even the same longing and distant eyes of the actress as she nests her head on the guy and makes us go weak in the knees all over again.
Taking us back to the time when we saw Ved and Tara wrapped in a romantic tragedy that made us ask for tissues more number of times than the space available on the hand rest in a theatre, the poster is coming across as an trip to the moment from the iconic song ‘Tum saath ho‘. And now that we think about it, Imtiaz Ali does have a type when it comes to movies. Be it Tamasha, Jab We Met or Rockstar, Imtiaz Ali’s all movies have a certain tell. A girl and a boy, on a journey of finding themselves and falling in love during that time, a million dramatic issues, and a climax of them coming together despite the grim odds. Also, the girl always the rescues the emotionally fucked up dude.
Of course, the poster is also a giveaway for the similar plot line that the original movie saw, considering the hashtag and postal signs that are bound to take us on a love story set in 2020 and in 1990. The trailer of the movie is scheduled to drop in tomorrow, while the movie is slated to be released on 14th February. We are yet to find out whether its just the poster that is giving us a major #Tamashaa feels or whether the movie too, will take us back to the story that Ved and Tara shared or remind us of Meera and Jai like in the original Love Aaj Kal!
