Samantha Akkineni Talks About Dealing With Trolls And We Should All Listen To What She Has To Say

Lately, I have been doing a lot of thinking. Mainly because I have come into writing a lot of opinion pieces, and while most of the times, people understand where I am coming from, sometimes it flies right above their head. Bounces off the hollows. And then there are times when I get major flak for just voicing my opinions. And turns out I am not the only one. Samantha Akkineni the South Indian actress and superstar, is also on the same page. If my DMs are full of people expressing hate that I should write about Honey Singh in this manner, I can only imagine how bad it is for female celebrities, especially the ones that have opinions.

The actress, who has time and again delivered some huge successes at the box office, and gone up to win millions of hearts, recently got candid about how she feels when she gets trolled, in an interview with India Today. From talking about her upcoming film, Oh Baby and how doing comedy wasn’t as easy as it looks, she opened up and we are taking notes. What caught our attention was how she’s dealing with the trolling she was subject to, soon after she offered her support to Chinmayi, another actress who came forward to call out people in the #MeToo movement.

Last year, the Kollywood actress backed up actresses like Chinmayi and Sandhya when they opened up about their experiences with sexual harrassement in the industry, and since then, Sammantha has been at the receiving end of brutal trolling. When asked about what she’d like to say to the haters, she said, “Of course, there are people that hate me as an actor, as a person or just my very existence. There are some people who hate me for the way I am, how I look and even when I breathe. I cannot go explain as to why they shouldn’t hate me, right? Sometimes, questions need to be asked and you just cannot support a cause and keep quiet. You need to be reminded that what you say and what you stand for has to be right. Otherwise, you’ll be pulled up for it. So, I think, a bit of both is important. It’s just when the trolling gets really ugly that I respond.”

And we totally understand where she is coming from. Being at a place in life, when whatever you say becomes the headline of a newspaper,  even when supporting a cause you feel strongly about, you have to be wary of the kind of words you use. The actress was then asked if she ever got angry with the kind of comments she sometimes receives and she replied, “Yeah, but I just keep my mouth locked before I react.” And that is so wise.
