Sameera Reddy Opened Up About Her Breastfeeding Struggles And It’s Honest AF.

We’ve been keenly following Sameera Reddy’s journey through her second pregnancy – from the stunning pregnancy photoshoot to her adorbs Godh Bharai. So when she delivered a baby girl this month, we’ve been overjoyed. Because we get full of feelings with these things. What we really love about Sameera Reddy is how confident and fearless she has been with her choices. When she was pregnant with her first child, it wasn’t an easy one, “It was the worst case scenario of what I could’ve imagined in terms of my body and the way I fell apart as a person because the pregnancy was very tough for me,” she said. In fact, the naysayers were trying to adulterate this beautiful experience for her. “I just started putting on weight and falling into some kind of place in my head because it went from shows, award functions and a glamorous lifestyle to just not being able to handle what pregnancy was doing to me,” she said. She revealed that people were constantly body-shaming her. “From being that ‘sexy Sam’, I went to this. I put on 32 kg and couldn’t recognise myself. I was a complete mess. I would leave the house and they said, ‘Is this Sameera Reddy? What happened to her?’ That pushed me into a further hole,” expressed Reddy.

In the final phase of her second pregnancy, she shared a post talking about body-positivity and true self-love. “Final lap of this pregnancy and I feel strong, excited, nervous and powerful. Mixed emotions in so much grace,” you could hear her say. Following her journey has been a rather beautiful experience for all of us. After the delivery, she spoke about her post-pregnancy struggles. She wrote: “As part of my #imperfectlyperfect campaign, I promised I’d share my post-partum journey so here goes. It’s really damn hard on the body when it’s a c section because the stitches hurt like mad. Nothing can ready you for the sleepless nights of endless feeding and your body just feels so out of whack it can really get you down. The tummy swelling takes a while to go and this is day 5 post delivery. (sic).”

Recently, she shared a post on breastfeeding on her Instagram, saying how women have the freedom to choose whether they want to breastfeed or not. And nobody has the right to judge them on their choices. She wrote, “Day 11 – Happiness galore with no sleep, colic and feeding round the clock! I think I forgot how stressful breastfeeding can be!! I mean the pressure is quite real and the whole top feed balance after a csec is hectic! I finally am exclusively feeding her but the whole process is something that should be natural but it’s made to be very stressful. I realised with the feedback that a lot of women struggle with it. I think it’s cool if a mom wants to move totally to formula or only BF or balance both. There is no shame and no one can define what’s the perfect way. We’re doing the best we can! Ladoos to pumps I’m on job but damn it’s really quite hard!?”

We completely agree with her. Women who end up using formula are often criticised by the older generations, for not being mom enough. And it’s part of a bigger problem – women being judged by their choices. What people need to understand is that a woman is an autonomous being and what she does with her body is not anybody’s business.

Recently, she also posted an adorable message for her baby girl on Instagram and left us with a big aww. She wrote: “This little girl gave me the strength of wild horses. She wanted me to find myself again. She knew I was lost and she showed me the way. I found a voice in celebrating motherhood, wanting change on body perception and the best part was reaching out to people to just feel good about themselves. I’m so happy that people felt so connected and supported me to get here! We prayed for a #babygirl and we are #blessed! #baby #pink #itsagirl #motherhood #mom #sleeplessnights #herewegoagain. That’s just…beautiful!
