Saloni Chopra Whose Powerful ‘No Woman Wants To Be Called India’s Daughter’ Opens Up About All things Feminism With Sunny Leone

We are living off of borrowed time it would seem. And by ‘we’ I mean, us irate feminists and the ones we have seemed to borrow it off of is the society, that just doesn’t seem to give up on holding their ridiculous and outdated beliefs. From not letting us women being born in some states to reducing us to just a means to please the sexual desires of a man, women have been treated far beneath the men. And that is the reason why today, as more and more women are making a noise about this existing and growing imbalance, the more resistance we are witnessing from the people. As is what happened when the social media influencer Saloni Chopra, took to her social media to give the people of the nation a piece of her mind, as she clarified to the world how no one wants to be called ‘India’s fucking daughter’.

Known to never hold her words or even her thoughts back, Saloni Chopra or better known as the @redheadwayfarer on the gram, is one of the very few influencers who has always managed to stay true to who she is and what she believes in. A fact that she has instated again and again, as she talks about important women issues in a manner that is hard to miss. Just how she recently went on record during an interview with Sunny Leone as she discussed a number of every day issues that plague us women.

What started out as a discussion about why she prefers to not sport a bra anymore, soon turned into an important conversation about the very reasons a woman is slut-shamed in this country, where Saloni mentioned how the meaning of that word is really being ‘sexy and not giving it or maybe not giving it to you but to everyone else.’ Diving deep into the topic, Saloni touched upon how society doesn’t view sexy for a woman the same way it does for a man, and that is proof of just how misogynist the world we live in, is.

She said, “The minute a woman does anything remotely sexy, it is automatically assumed that you are doing it to get a guy’s attention. In fact, so many women go out of their way to not be sexy, as to not give the wrong kind of impression. But what is wrong in it?” A question, that we too find ourselves asking, way too frequently.

She also talked about how she talks about women’s issues as radically and strongly as she does so that people are sensitised about it. She said, “The reason I talk about it is because it is an issue that needs to be discussed. It gets a lot of attention because it is an issue otherwise I wouldn’t be talking about it. The more people it reaches, the more negativity it gets, the more aware people get. They may not like me, they may hate me and even say ‘oh what a slut’, but they are seeing something they cannot un-see and 200 times later, maybe they would be a little less affected.”

And we have to agree, it does make a lot of sense. People need to be religiously and repeatedly reminded how their actions have repercussions that go way beyond their own tiny understanding, and how women need to be empowered to claim their status as equals in the society.
