Rahul Roy Is Speechless About Being Kareena Kapoor Khan’s First Crush. Does He Not Know He Was A Heartthrob Back Then?
When I was an adolescent, I used to stay glued to the television if there was a Rahul Roy movie on it. I still remember watching Aashiqui, Junoon and Phir Teri Kahaani Yaad Aayi…several times. Of course, my brain wasn’t equipped to fully comprehend these movies. But I really loved the songs…and possibly Rahul Roy too. At least, my sister thought so. The sleek hair, chiseled face and lover boy roles he played sent all the girls in a frenzy and he was quite a sensation back then. So when Kareena Kapoor Khan revealed Rahul Roy was her first crush, I am sure, several of us went like ‘Mine too!’ In fact, she had also said she watched Aashiqui eight times just for him.
Rahul Roy, who is still fondly remembered by those who grew up in the 90s, was overwhelmed by Kareena’s confession. He shared a news article about the same on Instagram and captioned it, “I’m speechless.” To this several fans commented that he was a crush of many. “Not only Kareena, there are many,” wrote one fan. “She wasn’t the only one u know that! My teens in mombasa u were my hugeee crush too, (sic)” wrote another fan.
He later shared another post, with the caption: “last couple of days I’ve been reading the news of the kind words Kareena has said about me .. I was speechless of the compliment as it took me by surprise but I do have to applaud her for always being honest and candid a quality all of us (fans) yes me included have admired her for ..can we expect anything less .. I hope to work with her too as I had worked with her extremely talented and beautiful sister Karisma .. God bless you always and remain the shining example u are to all ❤️❤️??”
I mean, it’s a big deal coming from Kareena. Here’s what she had said about her crush on her dance reality shown Dance India Dance: “My first crush was the hero of one my favourite films. I actually went to the theatre eight times to watch the film because of him and the songs of the film. This film’s song had become a rage and I am a little nervous to say this after so long – my first crush was Rahul Roy. Everyone was in love with him during his film Aashiqui.”
Rahul Roy became an overnight star with Mahesh Bhatt’s Aashiqui in 1990. Junoon, in which he plays the role of a werewolf, too was quite a hit! However, what’s really surprising is that even today, decades later, he is fondly remembered as the cutie of the late 80s and 90s. So much so, that he won the first season of Bigg Boss, with the love of both the audiences and other contestants. Through all the seasons of the reality show, he was the only contestant who never got into an ugly fight…not one single time.
Rahul Roy wasn’t just good looks, he has been a talented actor. And I really wish that we get to see more of him in future. Indian television needs him!
