Priyanka Chopra Sizzles On Magazine Covers, Says She Wants To Change The World. Such A Rockstar!
When Priyanka Chopra was crossing borders, we remember how the naysayers were quite bitter about it. She starred in Quantico, as one of the leads and yet there were people dismissing her success by saying the show wasn’t even a hit, even though it ran for three years! However, she is one of the most loved Indian actors in Hollywood, and has created an undeniable kind of success for herself.
PeeCee, however, never wanted her identity to be dictated by her ethnicity. She wanted to be seen as an actor, and do roles that go beyond her Indianness. In an interview with InStyle magazine, she revealed about the time she was just starting off, “I told Keli that I don’t want my ethnicity to dictate the part or what my character does. It should be about the story. I’m an actor, and it’s my job to deliver.” It was back in 2012, when Priyanka was first approached by Keli Lee (ABC’s then Executive Vice President of talent and casting.) It was only after a lot of back and forth that Priyanka finally signed Quantico.
Of course, that strategy worked well for her. In a span of just a few years, Priyanka Chopra has become a global phenomenon, and is loved by most. She has made several friends in the industry, has appeared on the covers of leading magazines and is the ambassador of UNICEF too. She is also on Forbes list of most powerful women and her international career is soaring with every passing day.
Looking absolutely gorgeous on the July cover of InStyle Magazine, she is constantly changing stereotypical notions about India. Dressed in a stunning Sabyasachi saree paired with a plunge-neck blouse, PeeCee is making the Indian attire a global favourite. Of course, it couldn’t have been easy, but Chopra Jonas is one determined woman. In the interview, she explained how she keeps herself going, “If you fail, which I have many times, and make risky choices, you just dust yourself off, get up, and try something else. It’s not the beginning of the end of everything.”
In the American magazine, she has spoken about her long-term aspirations, “I want to change the world a little bit. My big endgame is creating a formidable carer and legacy for myself, but at the same time I want to have moved something.” She wants to help actors from other countries make it to the West, without their ethnicity dictating the kind of roles they get. Priyanka emphasised, “I want to create that opportunity for many more actors from outside the U.S. — and it doesn’t have to be just Indians — to come into global entertainment and be up for lead parts without having to just play, you know, what their ethnicity defines.” If Priyanka Chopra is able to pull this off (and knowing her determination, we have full confidence in her!) it will change the map of global entertainment. Clearly, PeeCee is meant for greater things in life! She revealed she wants her kids to be proud of her. “I want my existence to have meant something. I want my kids to turn around and be like, ‘Yeah, that was my mom.’”
Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra Jonas has collaborated with Mindy Kaling for a yet-to-be-named romantic comedy, set in India and the US. Kaling will be the writer and director of the all-South Asian cast project. Clearly, the West is going to see India in a new light, thanks to these talented Indian women. “An all-Indian cast in a Hollywood movie — I don’t think I would have been able to pitch that in a room three years ago,” expressed Priyanka. She further added how both she and Mindy are looking forward to making it work! We are equally stoked about this venture and can’t wait to watch it. Way to go girl!
Priyanka Chopra Jonas will be doing a project on Maa Anand Sheela for Netflix. Back home, she will next be seen in The Sky Is Pink with Farhan Akhtar.
