Priyanka Chopra Is All Praises For Shonali Bose, Says Gender Doesn’t Define Talent And We Completely Agree With Her

I come from an extremely open-minded family and thank god for that. My parents raised me to believe I could do and be whatever I set my heart to. But unfortunately, in this testosterone-fueled world, not all girls are taught that. They are taught to curb their talent and pursue careers that will suit girls, whatever that means. So, when Priyanka Chopra said that talent is not defined by gender, we hope it resonates with anyone who needs to hear this. Everything a man can do, a woman can do. And possibly better *wink*. Unless it’s being a penis model (Yay for all the FRIENDS fans in the house) And that is exactly what our very own Priyanka Chopra is saying.

In an interview with IANS, PeeCee who is currently neck-deep in promotions for her movie The Sky Is Pink talked about how director Shonali Bose is a woman who can redefine Indian cinema with all the stories that she has and will be telling. Shonali has earlier made super niche movies like Margarita With A Straw which talks about the struggles of a teenager with cerebral palsy. After Zoya Akhtar’s Dil Dhadakne Do, The Sky is Pink marks the second movie that PeeCee has worked in that has been made by a woman filmmaker.

While talking about Shonali, Priyanka says, “I don’t think that your estrogen changes the kind of films that you make. I think she is an incredible filmmaker and the kind of stories that she has told and will continue telling, I think will define Indian cinema.” And we totally agree with her, we need more women filmmakers who are willing to make non-mainstream movies. Our society is in dire need of those.

She goes on to talk about how gender has absolutely nothing to do with anything. Women and men are both only as capable as their merit. Which I think is a very important point and I hope you’ll agree with me. If your talent speaks for you, gender is irrelevant. We only wish more people understood this fact. While praising Shonali, Priyanka also says that it was a real honour working with her, she is an excellent filmmaker and gender does not define that.

In the same interview, Priyanka who has dabbled in various things like singing, acting and now also producing was asked whether she would want to direct a movie someday. To which she said that direction makes her nervous since it is a lot of responsibility. But the way she has moved from acting to producing she hopes sometime in the future she will be able to direct as well. Though it makes her nervous, looking at her versatility, we have no doubt she will do a fabulous job if she ever decides to take up direction as well.
