Priyanka Chopra And Nick Jonas To Produce A Wedding Series. We Are Expecting A Big, Fat Indian Sangeet!

This is wedding season. We are plum in the middle of it, in case you needed to be reminded. From being bombarded with invitations left, right and centre, to having your parents give you the side eye because everyone is getting married, this is the season that has all of us high on adrenaline and alcohol because well,  there’s an open bar. But one of the most entertaining parts of a wedding, even more than the naagin dance of that drunk chachaji in the baraat, is planning and preparing for the sangeet, that takes place a night before the wedding. The night that is hailed as a big party involving power-packed performances from both the bride and the groom’s side is usually the highlight of Indian weddings that last for a good 3-4 days. And we aren’t the only ones with that opinion, as the star couple Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas have too come forward to claim how now when they look back to the time of their wedding, they recall how the sangeet was one of the most fun times of the wedding.

The couple that recently celebrated their one year anniversary on December 1st, has been setting all kinds of couple goals for us from the moment they came together, and today, a year down the line from their grand wedding in Jodhpur, they are still at it. More so since they’ve recently announced how they would be seen executive producing a sangeet show with Amazon Prime for all the engaged couples, set to get married in 2020.

Shared by Priyanka Chopra Jonas on her Instagram account through a post dedicated just to this news, PeeCee revealed how they have received a green light for a new unscripted series that will be executive produced by the famous couple, and is said to be inspired by the Indian pre-wedding tradition of the sangeet ceremony. Chopra Jonas captioned the post by writing, “At our wedding, both of our families came together to perform a sangeet. A performance (dance-off competition style) that celebrated our love story, one of the most unforgettable moments from a very special time in our lives.”

She further wrote, “@nickjonas and I are excited to announce a new, currently untitled project (we’re still working on it!!) that celebrates the love and magic that comes from friends and family that join together through music and dance the night before a wedding. It’s our #SangeetProject ❤️❤️ Happy one year anniversary baby. It’s our first together. We want to share this amazing experience with couples set to be wed. SO…if you’re engaged to be married in the spring or summer next year (2020), we want to be part of the celebration and help you make it even more spectacular. #representationmatters #crosspollination #culturesblending.”

Inviting fellow couples to be part of the show, as the casting is currently underway, the star couple means to give a chance to the couples to be aired on Prime Video by providing them with ‘an arsenal of celebrity choreographers, stylists and creative directors,’ that will help them to prepare for the performance of a lifetime. Every episode will take the viewers through the life and preparation of a different couple as they get on with their song and dance celebration.

While talking about the concept of the show, Priyanka Chopra also shared how, “We re-watched the video of our sangeet last week on our first anniversary, and the togetherness of our family and friends during this event still sparks the same warmth and excitement that it did just over a year ago at our wedding. The sangeet is a centuries-old Indian wedding tradition, that not only celebrates the union of two people, but also signifies the introduction and bonding of two families coming together in a marriage.”

Nick also pitched in and said, “The days leading up to our sangeet were some of the most special, memorable moments of the weekend. Bringing the concept of this musical celebration to the mainstream in a new way, through couples setting out on one of the most exciting journeys of their life, is an idea that we are proud to bring to life with Amazon.”

Planning to go on air next year in 2020, which is when the shooting is scheduled to take place, even the talks of this unnamed and unscripted show have us excited and we can’t wait to see how it turns out.
