Parineeti Chopra *Maybe* Fired As The Face Of The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Campaign Following Her Anti-CAA Tweet. That’s Just Wonderful.
They made us believe India is progressing and better days are just around the corner. Yet, every day we wake up to the kind of news that shakes us to our very bones. When Dr Priyanka Reddy was raped, killed and charred, we as a society felt enraged to say the least. No words can express the sentiment we felt then and continue to feel now, because half of our country’s population is living in danger and our government hasn’t changed that yet. Clearly, the cost of human life in India is cheaper than onions at this point. And then we woke up to the police brutality at Jamia Millia Islamia University. And then some more violence at the protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC). A lot of Bollywood celebrities stood up condemning the violence the protesters were subjected to. But Parineeti Chopra had to pay a price for voicing her opinions on Twitter.
Recently, Parineeti had taken to Twitter to express her views, “If this is what’s gonna happen everytime a citizen expresses their view, forget #CAB, we should pass a bill and not call our country a democracy anymore! Beating up innocent human beings for speaking their mind? BARBARIC.” However, according to a report by Jagran.com, Parineeti Chopra has been removed as the face of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign by the Haryana Government after this tweet.

A few days ago, we heard that Sushant Singh was asked to leave Savdhaan India after he participated in the protest. However, he and the channel both gave a statement that it wasn’t for this reason.
I don’t understand – if we have freedom of speech in whatever little capacity because we are still pretending this is a democracy, why can’t we express our opinions on matters that are relevant to us? It’s not cool and this is seriously messed up if you have to pay a price to be vocal about things.
In a new update, our government has issued a list of FAQs in an attempt to clarify the doubts and fears around CAA and NRC. They say it will not affect anybody of any religion and people in the lower strata of the society with no documents will also be accounted for. They also say that this has been a propaganda of the rivals. They say the protesters were violent too. Honestly, at this point I don’t feel equipped with enough knowledge to understand what really is happening. I don’t know what to believe. But one thing I can say with conviction is that we have the right to have a voice and opinions. You cannot dictate us or shut us down if we say things that go down well with you.

However, I don’t support violence – neither by the police nor by the protesters. So I hope that protests can happen peacefully and our government can speak a language that is meant for a civilised nation and not that of violence.
