On World Emoji Day, I Have A Few Questions About The Emojis Being Introduced. Mainly, Why?

I have to admit. I am not an avid user of emojis. Yes, I will throw in the occasional guy who has tears streaming down his face because something is so funny, but on the whole, I am more likely to put a hahaha than an emoji. I do get it though. I do understand this entire generation’s compulsion to avoid using words or grammar, I am guessing it’s too much of an investment. And emojis help tide them through difficult times that require expressing themselves.

And today, both Apple and Android have said they will introducing a bunch of new emojis. Of course, everyone needs them. Or so you would think. I had a look at the emojis being introduced and I have a few questions. Actually, I have a lot of questions.

Apple emojis

I can wrap my head around the ninja emoji. You could use it during a conversation with a friend who you think is quite slinky. I get it. I am also able to understand that beauty of the pinched fingers. But Apple is introducing about 117 emojis and some of them, I am simply thrown by. Take, for example, the lung and heart emoji. Now before you at me, the heart emoji isn’t the red heart we throw around like confetti when we don’t know how to respond something. This is an emoji with an actual heart. With aortas and everything. There are also lungs- the real ones.

For the life of me, I cannot think of the reasons we need the actual organs from the body as emojis. Maybe this is something that doctors exchange  when they are talking about their patients, but I would not put my body in the hands of these doctors. But hey, you do you, okay?

Android’s emojis will have a lot more animals, and rightfully so, they do need representation. I mean, what if I am talking about seals and I need emojis to explain how I feel about them? That would be the right time to use those. Given that I have never had a conversation about seals, except the ones with my husband about how the water leakage needed to be sealed, I don’t see how to use this. But also, there is an emoji there which has a man in a veil and what I think is a bridal outfit. Yay for more representation for the LGBTQ+ community. That’s awesome.

While I have no figured out how to use all of these. No wait, any of these, I know that the newly introduced dodo is am emoji I can use for a lot of people. Mainly in that I wish they were extinct.
