Nita Ambani Shows Her Support To The Indian Women’s Cricket Team. This Is Just The Boost Our Team Needs

I am Indian and I love myself from Bollywood but  I am not a cricket fan. I don’t follow IPL. In fact, I barely understand the game. I know you want to revoke my citizenship but listen, I do care about ze country. For starters, there is one aspect of cricket that I do care about- our women’s team. In our country, sportswomen are undermined and under appreciated, these women could use all the support they can get. Which is why even the slightest aspect of progress for them gets me all excited. And right now we are celebrating the fact that Nita Ambani has announced her support of women’s cricket in India. This is just the kind of boost our team needs!

Cricket in India is like a religion and people are fanatics. However, the field of cricket is also insanely gender-biased. The men’s team is revered while the women’s team is barely given any attention. Most people can’t even name two women cricketers. All this though started changing a while ago. Women’s cricket started gaining popularity. Of course, nothing compared to the men’s but it’s a work in progress. Although, don’t even get me started on the wage gap. That just makes me angry and sad at the same time.

However, now that Nita Ambani, the founder and chairperson of Reliance Foundation, has shown her support towards our women’s team, there is still hope. She also offered the cricket facility at Jio Cricket Stadium, Navi Mumbai, for women cricketers. This state-of-the-art cricket stadium can be availed to conduct trials, camps and host competitive matches throughout the year. And it’s all free of cost for the national women’s team. In fact, on 1st November, the BCCI declared Reliance Jio as the title sponsor of the Women’s T20 Challenge 2020.

In an official statement, Nita Ambani said, “This is a progressive step towards the growth of women’s cricket in India. I am delighted to offer my full support for this wonderful initiative. I have immense faith in the potential and capabilities of all our sportswomen. Indian women cricketers have made the country proud with their outstanding achievements in ICC events over the last couple of years. Our aim is to ensure that we offer the best of infrastructure, training and rehab facilities to our girls.”

The reason why this is so exciting is that Nita Ambani is India’s first woman representative at the International Olympic Committee. It’s really amazing to see the Indian women’s cricket team receive so much love and support.

Hopefully, this will lead to bigger and better things for our women’s team!
