Nirbhaya Case Update: Delhi High Court Gives The Four Convicts One Week To Exhaust All Their Legal Remedies.

Nirbhaya Case Update: Delhi High Court Gives The Four Convicts One Week To Exhaust All Their Legal Remedies.

For seven long years, the entire country waited for the day the Nirbhaya convicts to face the consequences of their heinous crime. The brutal gang-rape and murder of Jyoti Singh aka Nirbhaya drove the nation into a frenzy and sent shockwaves through all of us. But today is a good day for we are one step closer to bringing her to justice once and for all.

If you have been following the case as closely as we have then you know that the legal proceedings have been a tedious journey full of obstacles. Of course, the four remaining convicts Vinay Sharma, Pawan Gupta, Mukesh Singh, and Akshay Singh and their lawyers are not making it any simpler.

I am sure by now you’ll know they were supposed to be hung on February 1st, 2020 but that did not happen since Vinay Sharma filed a mercy petition at the very end moment. Merely hours after his plea was rejected by the President, his co-convict Akshay also filed his plea just so they can have 14 more days to live (that is the law). But after this, the lower court issued a stay warrant on their execution. And allow me to jog your memory, before them, Mukesh Singh filed his mercy petition which was the reason the date got pushed from January 22nd to February 1st. You do see the pattern here, don’t you?

The only convict who has not exhausted all his legal remedies is Pawan Gupta. And we could’ve bet our money that his lawyers were waiting for whatever date the courts gave next so they can file a mercy plea and postpone it two weeks further.

This was getting tiresome and the Supreme Court finally picked up on this vicious tactic of theirs to toy with the courts and along with the Center challenged the lower court’s stay order on their execution. At that moment, justice for Jyoti looked bleak and yet a long way ahead. Though thankfully that is not the case anymore.

In a surprising turn of events, the High Court has said that all four convicts will get one week to exhaust all their legal remedies after which the lower courts must begin their proceedings for their execution. This concludes the Centers petition against the indefinite freeze placed by the lower court on their hanging. The court was, however against hanging the four separately, which was also something the Center had requested.

This is amazing news since now these monsters will get what they deserve without having any loopholes to exploit. This will not only avenge Jyoti but will bring some joy to her mother as well who has been fighting every hurdle that those four threw at her and the courts.

When she heard about the High Court’s orders she said “I’m glad that the High Court has set a time limit for the process. The convicts have been delaying it, now it has to be done within a week.”

This has been one of the most convoluted court trials ever and we are so glad that today’s ruling has set the path clear for their execution. I can’t wait until the day the execution is finally carried out, that day will be a victory for our country’s justice system.
