Netizens Are Sharing How Horny They Have Been While In Lockdown. Quarantine Sexual Arousal Is Legit, Says An Expert.

By  |

Recently, we heard that the sale on condoms shot up in India during this period of quarantine. Clearly, co-habiting couples intend to make the most of this free time, you know the whole excitement of ‘hum tum ek kamre mein bandh ho.’ Things always take a sexual turn between couples if you keep them locked up together for a while. Because mauka hai, dastur hai

But somehow, this period is making even those who have been single af, rather horny. The internet is flooded with memes about how everyone is feeling like getting some, except there’s nothing really you can do about it. There’s even coronavirus porn out there. And if you’re wondering what that possibly could be then let me tell you, it’s just people getting it on, while dressed in hazmat suits, gloves and are probably sanitising their hands every other minute. Your exes are sliding into your DMs. The guys who ghosted you are sliding back like they have been resurrected. Suddenly, everyone has sex on their mind and is it just because you’re idle?

Bored and Horny

Dr. Justin Lehmiller, research fellow at the Kinsey Institute and author of Tell Me What You Want gave some really cool insights to Men’s Health. “You have a lot of people at home who have more time on their hands than usual and are lacking their normal social outlets,” explained Dr. Lehmiller. He further added, “With this combination of more leisure time but fewer outlets for socialising, it makes perfect sense that you’re going to see a lot of bored and horny people sitting around—they’re not stressed from a long day at the office and they don’t have anywhere to go.”

The co-relation between fear and arousal

But that’s not all. Apparently, when we have death on out mind, it can make us horny. “Well, many of us are starting to fear death, and even if we aren’t worried about coronavirus killing us, death, in general, is currently on our minds. That’s because media attention on the coronavirus is making death and mortality more salient,” said Dr. Lehmiller. He said that people use sex as a coping mechanism to deal with such fears and negative emotions. In fact, a lot of people feel more tempted to try casual sex in such times.

It makes people feel alive

People are feeling horny because sex can help you feel in more control of things, in times where you have no certainty of anything. “We also know that sex is an activity that makes a lot of us feel more “alive,” so it shouldn’t be surprising that a pandemic that confines people to their homes would promote more interest in activities that give them this powerful feeling,” explained Dr. Lehmiller.

Excitation transfer

Since we are subconsciously already in a state of physiological arousal, it kind of transfers itself to horniness. Which is also why make-up sex feels so good. “Fear and other strong emotions definitely have the potential to make us horny. When we’re in a heightened state of physiological arousal—when heart rate, breathing rate, and blood pressure rise—researchers have found that this has the potential to amplify sexual arousal. It’s called “excitation transfer,” said Dr. Lehmiller.

We are all just kind of just hanging in there feeling horny but with no one to do. However, I suggest masturbating regularly to give it an outlet. Or if you have a bae, you can simply use technology to your advantage – sexting, cyber sex and phone sex. However, make sure it’s safe for you to do so.
