Thoughts We All Had When We Saw The Shloka and Akash Ambani Wedding Invite

It’s the wedding season! And this means it is the time to outdo every other wedding in terms of grandeur. Like when we found ourselves at one that had a ‘Make your pizza’ station or another one where we were at a photo booth we could build our home in. But none of that holds a candle to how fancy schmancy Shloka Mehta and Akash Ambani’s wedding is anticipated to be.  Shloka Mehta, daughter of the diamond merchant Russell Mehta, and Akash Ambani, son of Mukesh Ambani, will have their grand wedding soon and we are ready to be bedazzled, and of course, feel severely inadequate.

Mukesh and Nita Ambani went to the temple to offer the first invite and subsequently, we all saw our jaws drop to the floor as the video released that took us through the card. And we all had a few things running through our head as we watched this.

For starters, let’s talk about the size. This is a wedding card. It is the size of a big board game box. You could possibly pull out a human out of it. It has an animated rotating disc on it with a picture of Radha and Lord Krishna, which lights up and there are multiple cards inside to various wedding functions.  We are wondering if we could even afford the number of pages they’ve used, let alone the number of functions.

Let’s talk about the aesthetic. Because this is no ordinary invite. There are things popping up, there are rotating elements and it’s so pretty and Indian, we thought a well-curated and holistic Ayurveda product ensemble might be included. We thought, hey, a refreshing catalog, at the end of which we’d be asked to pick and order.

Our wedding invites are simple, and pretty customary – a nice square envelope with maximum 3 invites to the pre-wedding and wedding ceremonies. Also, because that’s what we can afford. Unless we are trying to relieve our parents of all their life’s savings and retirement fund, that is.  On the other hand, theirs was close to a book. a note from the Ambani parents, and several pop up invites to the events planned for the big day. Oh wait, days.

The entire wedding invitation could quite easily be traded for a decent hatchback or a sedan. Of course, our hope is that we get invited. Or that we can sell the invitation for jewellery.

Also, is it just us, or does the very first look of this wedding card comes off as looking at a giant pink wedding cake with floral frosting?
