Manya Singh, Daughter Of An Auto Rickshaw Driver, Crowned Miss India 2020 Runner-Up. Her’s Is An Inspiring Story Of Struggle And Determination!

Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” Yes, that quote has been over-quoted through the years but it’s one of my all-time favourites. My mother would always say if you dream, dream big and go after it with all your heart. Nothing is too impossible. It’s all about persevering through every hurdle and keeping your eye on the prize. And that’s what VLCC Miss India 2020 runner-up, Manya Singh, has done all her life. Even though Telangana’s Manasa Varanasi wore the crown, Manya’s story of determination and hope has left us awe-struck and inspired.

Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Manya Singh, despite her humble roots, achieved her dream of not only participating in the Miss India pageant but also being crowned the runner-up. Manya, the daughter of an auto rickshaw driver, opened up about the struggles she was met with on her road to success. From sleepless nights to working extra hard to get where she’s gotten, Manya is an inspiration.

A few months ago, the official handle of Miss India shared a post quoting Manya on how proud she was of her roots and how hard she’d worked to stand on that platform. She said, “I’ve spent numerous nights without food and sleep. I’ve spent many afternoons walking for miles on end. My blood, sweat, and tears have amalgamated into the courage to pursue my dreams. Being a rickshaw driver’s daughter, I never had the opportunity to attend school as I had to start working in my teens.”

Eventually, her parents mortgaged their jewellery to pay for her education. However, Manya Singh ran away from home and completed her education. She worked as a dishwasher during the day and at a call centre during the night. Manya told Miss India, “My mother has suffered a lot to provide for me. At 14, I ran away from home. I somehow managed to complete my studies in the day, became a dishwasher in the evening and worked at a call centre at night. I’ve walked hours to reach places so I could save the rickshaw fare. ”

After reading about Manya Singh, I realised that we tend to take our parents, our privilege and our dreams for granted. She has suffered and struggled to get to the top. I think we can all learn a little something from her perseverance and determination.

In another post by Miss India, Manya talked about her aim. She said, “I am here today at the VLCC Femina Miss India 2020 stage to uplift my father, my mother, and my young brother and to show the world that all is possible if you are committed to yourself and your dreams.”

Congratulations and more power to Manya Singh!
