Manu Bhaker Breaks The Junior World Record At Women’s 10M Air Pistol And Wins Gold! She’s Such A Star

You know it’s a happy day when while scrolling past the usual entertainment news and political debates of the country, and you come across a news that makes your chest swell with pride. The news about Manu Bhaker bagging India’s first gold medal at the ISS World Cup came about and made us feel so much better about being a woman hailing from India, a feeling that we are otherwise often quite on the fence about.

Breaking the Junior World record after winning a spectacular gold medal at the Women’s 10m Air Pistol at the ISS World Cup, Manu Bhaker has come through like a champion with her impeccable spirit and a performance that would be hard to forget and even harder to beat. Finishing at the total of 244.7 at first position, with Serbia’s Zorana Arunovic at a close second with a total of 241.9 and China’s Quian Wang at the third position with 221.8, India’s Manu Bhaker has done us all proud.

This achievement also made Manu the second Indian shooter after Heena Sidhu to have won a gold medal at the Women’s 10m Air Pistol at the ISS World Cup and we are glad we have such bright and young talent following suit and keeping up the tradition of leaving a lasting impression wherever they go. Yashaswini Deswal, who was also taking part in the tournament, came 6th in the running and we are even more impressed to learn how it wasn’t just one but two brilliant women from our country, competing at a global level!

For everyone (and sadly there are quite a few of them), who thought of women just belong in the house to do chores and run errands, Manu’s victory has come as a much-needed realisation, hopefully giving them the perspective – that women are really the ones putting us on a global map here, be it Manu Bhaker, P.V. Sindhu, Mary Kom or the likes of them. Women are more than capable of taking to the skies and with such achievements, there’s no looking back.  It isn’t just a proud moment for Manu, but for all womankind and our country.

It’s time we teach our daughters to look up to such women who are giving the phrase ‘act like a woman’, its true meaning. We heartily congratulate Manu Bhaker for a stunning performance, and wish it is only a start to a very successful and empowering career ahead!
