When you go to a black tie dinner, you wear formal clothes. When you go to work, you tuck in your shirt and look presentable. When you go to school, you have to wear a uniform. These are usually the rules. The ones that most of us have to follow. So, if you have to go swimming, what would you wear? This was precisely the question that Malaika Arora asked. “This is an old picture from my trip to the Maldives last year. People seemed to have a point of view on my attire in the pictures. To all those people, I just have one question: What as per you, is the appropriate attire to wear while swimming or diving in the ocean?” IANS quoted her as saying.

Malaika posted a collage of her swimming, in swimming attire, and the Internet lost the plot. Men and women took it upon themselves to call her out for her choice of clothes. The comments ranged from distasteful to disgustingly shameful. The comments talk about her body, her choosing to show off so much skin, and some people even talked about her not dressing correctly when she’s a ‘mom’. Yes, we don’t have any lines we won’t toe.

It’s 2018. Maybe it’s time we let women do their thing. Let them wear what they want, whenever they want, and we shut up.
