In An Alarming Incident In MP, 9 Men Kidnapped And Raped A 13-Year-Old Girl Twice In A Span Of 5 Days
In the last year, crimes against women have doubled. Every second day, we come across brutal reports of rape, domestic violence and even cold-blooded murders. At a time like this, one can’t help but wonder why women’s safety is not prioritised in our country. This is a thought that has crossed my mind numerous times, and each time I think about the various government initiatives introduced to that effect, and how they clearly aren’t working. Think about it. Just a few days ago, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Chauhan announced a fortnight-long public awareness drive called ‘Samman’ that aims at increasing public awareness about crimes against women in the state. In the wake of this come reports that a 13-year-old girl from Madhya Pradesh was kidnapped and gang-raped twice by nine men in a span of five days. It’s beyond horrifying.
This alarming incident came to light from Umaria in Madhya Pradesh. The minor girl was abducted and gang-raped twice in five days. Clearly, we are going extremely wrong somewhere.
According to the police, the 13-year-old was kidnapped by a man first on January 4th. She was then gang-raped by him and six of his friends for two days. They let her go after threatening to kill her if she told anyone about the ordeal. The girl did not report the crime.

Six days later, on January 11, the horror repeated itself when she was kidnapped yet again. This time, her abductor was one of the seven men who had raped her earlier. She was held hostage in jungles as well as a roadside eatery where she was raped yet again.
The chilling details of this incident has me shocked and baffled. It doesn’t end here though. After letting her go once more, the girl was abducted yet again. This time, she was raped by two truck drivers. However, she managed to flee and return home on Friday morning. After which, a police case was filed. A police official said, “We’ve so far arrested seven accused and hope to nab the remaining accused of the first case by Saturday night.”
This shocking merciless ordeal comes to light merely days after a 45-year-old woman was raped by four men who broke into her hut in Madhya Pradesh. They tortured her by inserting an iron rod into her private parts. And this wasn’t the only case that was registered in the state in the last week. In a different part of the state, another 13-year-old girl was raped by a grocery store owner.
All these gruesome rape cases are raising serious questions about the rapidly declining safety of women in Madhya Pradesh.
