Katrina Kaif Will Be In Bollywood’s First Ever Woman Superhero Movie. We Hope She’s Given More To Do Than Prance Around In Skimpy Outfits
There was a time a few years ago that I had completely sworn off Bollywood movies. Why you ask? The reason is simple, they were coming up with some horrible content and I didn’t want to spend three hours feeling my brain cells die. You have to agree with me, most of the movies that were being churned out of our industry were infected with crappy action, a sappy love-story, idiotic slapstick comedy and songs that could be used as torture tools. Okay, I might be exaggerating for effect, but you get my point, don’t you?
Here’s the thing, it might not seem like that, but I love commercial Bollywood movies as much as the next person. But here’s an unpopular opinion, I would love to see them mix it up, genre-wise. Most of the time, they only focus on four genres at best- action, comedy, a biopic or a love story. We are missing out on the good content because most filmmakers are playing it safe. And if something works, a biopic or a thriller, we milk that genre so much, there’s not much more we can explore. Talk about formulaic.
However, director Ali Abbas Zaffar does and his latest project is as offbeat as it can get, and we are super excited for it. In a recent interview with Mumbai Mirror, he revealed that his next project is actually a superhero movie and that’s not even the best part. The protagonist is going to be played by Katrina Kaif, which means (drumroll please) Bollywood is going to have its first woman superhero!

In the interview, he said, “My next is a superhero film with Katrina (Kaif). Recently, I locked that script and it will go on the floors once the lockdown ends. I have completed the first draft of another film as well, and hopefully, that script will be ready soon.”
He further added, “There’s a lot of prep required because of the kind of action involved and I am in touch with an international team over video calls. I’m also doing script readings with my actors and chatting with the production designer. There is a lot happening.”
How cool is this? Bollywood’s first woman superhero movie. I just can’t wait to know what her powers are going to be and who knows maybe it’ll turn out to be a kickass franchise (we haven’t had those in a while).

There is another reason I am so excited about this project. You see, for as long as Bollywood has thrived, we have never seen a woman superhero on our screens, so this is a pretty big deal. After watching movies like (all the hundred parts of) Krish and RaOne, a woman superhero will be a sight for sore eyes.
The only tricky thing here is that Bollywood is known for sexualizing women (let’s not deny that). So I hope they focus a large majority of their attention on building her character and giving superhero-like things to do instead of putting her in just skimpy outfits and treat her like a damsel in distress and make a huge mess of everything.
That being said, we can’t wait to watch Katrina zoom around on our screens in a leather outfit. YAS!
