Why Karan Johar’s Book Should Be Your Next Read
Hands down the most anticipated autobiography of the year, An Unsuitable Boy by Karan Johar and co-authored by journalist Poonam Saxena, was launched at a gala event by none other than Shah Rukh Khan. This wasn’t really a surprise — considering the equation that these 2 share, it was a given that the superstar would introduce the book to the world. In fact, there’s whole chapter about him in the book. More interested now? Thought so. It is an honest book about everything KJo. Compelling, full of secrets, and a lot more, this is one book that *should* be on your reading list, Bollywood crazy or not.
He writes on his much gossiped-about sexual orientation and how he paid for sex in New York, his ties with SRK and his family, his friendship with Aditya Chopra, and the recent fallout with his one time lucky mascot, Kajol. If you like gripping stories, this one is your pick. It starts with his childhood, about his relationship with his father Yash Johar and disciplinarian mother, Hiroo, and funny anecdotes from his time at boarding school with Twinkle Khanna. From the success of Koffee With Karan to the AIB roast incident, it has everything.
A loved boy who has been a loner, a boy who is in no way unsuitable but is so much more, as said by Shah Rukh Khan. Sure, Bollywood is giving each part, each story a border, a back story, but the limelight is on the director who, like in his movies, has put his entire life on a platter, with intensity and care.
Get this soul-wrenching book here and, while you are at it, buy Rishi Kapoor’s autobiography with it too. The veteran has obviously taken twitter by a storm, more than a few times, so reading his book is probably a good idea.
The launch event was as glamorous as it can get, attracting a few of our favourites. Scroll down to see who made it to support the director on this milestone.
